Noticed this a couple of days ago and it wasnt there before. When an audio source is playing the sub makes a humming noise that gets louder as the volume goes up. Granted you cant hear it when a movie or music is on but in the very quiet scenes or when changing the channels and there is a moment of silence you can hear it. I have tried several different cords and it still makes this humming sound. Any ideas?

First thing I do is disconnect the sub cable at the sub and slowly turn up the gain. If you get the hum, it is defiantly in the sub. If that's not it, then, after turning the gain down, is to connect the sub cable at the sub and disconnect it from the AVR. Then turn up the gain. If you get the hum, it may be the cable, but since you have tried other cables, that's probably not the problem. If you get the hum when fully connected, but not with the sub disconnected, it may be a ground loop. Try a different outlet or the same outlet as your receiver. If the hum is still there, try disconnecting other components, especially if you have a cable box or satellite box. If none of this gets rid of he sub, call SVS.

I don't believe a ground cheater will work as the last time I looked, SVS does not use a grounded power cord. They have 3 prongs at the outlet end, but only 2 on the sub end.

Please contact us at [email protected] . Most humming problems (at least with SV subwoofers) are the result of a ground loop in the system. We can help you troubleshoot and isolate it.
