Swan Speaker 6.1

709 Views 7 Replies 5 Participants Last post by  gulang22
I purchased a pair of Swan Speaker 6.1s from NewEgg. Unfortunately, one of the speakers is DOA. There is no sound from the midrange and the treble. I will have to return it. Its to my surprise that there is no inscruction or manual in the box. Put it the other way: There is no piece of paper in the speaker box. The NewEgg website indicates this speaker has manufacturer warranty only. Since there is nothing in writing with the speaker, now I don't know what kind of warranty these speakers have. I'm sure I'm not the only one ordering from NewEgg. Does anyone know what the warranty is for the Swan 6.1? For those who have 6.2, do you have any manual for your speaker?

I called Swan twice last week, and no one answered the phone. I have left the message and no one called me back.
Is the speaker damaged in any way?

About 7 years ago I had a pair of these sent to my house for demoing...great mids and highs...anyway...check the binding posts on the speaker that's not working properly.

If I recall these are supposed to come with a brass or gold plated "bridge" to connect the upper and lower terminals. These are removable in case you ever want to bi-wire/bi-amp the mids/highs separate from the bass woofers. If the upper and lower terminals aren't connected...you'll not get any sound from the other speakers . If you find it missing(check the shipping box also)...simply run some wire between terminals(red+ to red+, black- to black-) . If the bridge is there and you still aren't getting sound...I bet a wire connector has come loose on the inside of the binding post block or crossover. You may be able to see inside the speaker through the port to see if any wires are hanging loose. You may need a small mirror and a flashlight in order to get a good look. Or you could carefully remove the binding post plate to check connections. disclaimer: Only do that if you don't get anywhere with swan...as it may void factory warranties.

edit:

If I recall the diva's setup on the binding posts:

top terminals go to the mids/tweets

bottom terminals go to the two large woofers

Good info there!

Also i would bet that newegg would warrant a DOA speaker. IMHO they have great customer support on all other things so I would try to fix as posted and if that fails then call them.

Yah newegg is usually excellent on returns. However this being a large(heavy) speaker...they may want the op to pay return shipping...ouch. If the speakers aren't physically damaged...then like I said above...it sounds like a simple wire connection issue. I'd explore that as far a I felt comfortable before paying for return shipping, but that's just my opinion. ;)
Hey folks, no worries. I import and service New Egg's Swan distribution and I can assure you that you have a three-year warranty.

If the binding post straps trick doesn't do it, contact New Egg and get a replacement. They'll have me replace the product.

If for some reason that fails, contact me directly at The Audio Insider...
Thanks KenWH for your valuable information. I did get a chance to check the speaker, and you are right. The top right terminal has no wire when I check from the port with a flashlight. It doesn't look like I can fix it by removing the post only since theres no loose wire hanging around.

Thanks, Jon, for the warranty information. I don't like the idea that I have to pay returning shipment for a defective speaker. I will contact Newegg for RMA.
