My media server needed an extra boost in power so I upgraded my mobo with a combo from fry's.
Wouldn't you know it the combo had a mobo that wouldn't work with the processor in the combo. They said it was a newer version of the mobo that would support that processor, but inside the box was an older mobo... geeze.
Anyway the manager at components had me buy a newer mobo and wants me to move my processor over to the new board.
The text in the processor says blah, blah, blah and something about removing the fan from the processor and that the "recommended" paste can only be used when reattaching them.
I don't have any paste, nor do I know what would be OK to keep the warranty in good standing.
Is it possible to pull the CPU and fan off without disconnecting the two parts? I know that once you break the seal it needs to be re-done, but I don't know anything about popping a CPU & Fan off a board.
Can it be done? Any suggestions on how to do it? Or is it easy?
