My 2nd tuner has went out and RCA will be sending me a "reconditioned" system to replace it. My question is, can the two drives just be swapped so that I do not lose all of my recordings?
No. A password is issued for each unit and the drives will be reformatted in each machine. Each unit will see the other's drive as an invalid drive. Therefore the software will download and the drive will be set up from scratch.
If you have a drive that was in one UTV and want to use it in another unit, how do you force it to redownload the software? All I get are blinking lights when I try to put in a drive from another unit. (I just had a unit that died and had an upgraded drive in it...I'd like to use that drive in my new UTV.)
Thanks for any help!
BTW...I could only find 2 units left in the entire Baltimore/Washington area. I drove 2 hours to Tweeter's in Fairfax, VA to buy 2 Sony units for $99 each. It will be as sad day when I don't have a functioning UTV unit!!
Those "blinking lights" indicate a reformat of the disk is underway. Let it finish (40-50 mins) and then the UTV will attempt to dial-in to get the latest software and download it to the unit.
You are welcome ... I'm glad it worked out so well! -TJ
