The other four dozen threads about either of these sets say it all.

Read away.
Well i have to say i really like the sxrd but it does not accept 1080p and it is still more money than the samsung. Having seen both in action since i work with them, feel that the samsung still looks incredible sitting nex to the sxrd and at a lower price. Plus the piano black is very nice to look at.

I viewed the 56" version yesterday and I agree it was the best DLP I'd seen and the cosmetics of the set and price it is a winner but I won't go so far as to say it equals the SXRD 60". I've owned it and compared both yesterday and I still feel the SXRD a notch above the DLP but it is at a price premium.

My hats off to Samsung for refining these but I still have not seen a panel match or exceed the SXRD including plasma. The Samsung is a great TV so please don't take it as a negative - the Samsung was dipslaying it's own custom HD Feed and the Sony feeding it's unbeatable Hawaii feed from the Sony HD Box. Both were excellent but I've never seen anything displayed as perfect as that Hawaii feed.

Not saying your wrong - JMO having owned some of the best panels and I go back every week or so to see if anything surpasses the SXRD and not seen anything do it. The Sales Associate identified the new Samsung and the SXRD as the two customer favorites presently with Samsung getting a nod for it's much lower price. I think your a winner with either and man that piano black looks great - the old version had a sort of cheap look to them but this thing really stood out an easily beat the Hitachi and the Samsung 6768 next to it and I hope Sony is getting a peek at these for generation two. :)

The answer of course is whichever looks best to your eyes. They are both excellent sets.
Both of these sets are fantastic. I couldn't get past Sony's horrible design despite having arguably the best picture on the market. JVC's HD-ILA sets have a far superior cosmetic design. All the feeds in the 6 stores I visited had horrible feeds to the Samsung while the SXRD had the infamous Hawaii feed which shows the sets potential, but is unrealistic for home setups. I took a chance on the Samsung. Once I had it up and running at home, I can tell you I made the right choice. Cosmetically it's beautiful. It's extremely thin sides fit my entertainment center perfectly. Visually it's a masterpiece to watch. The sxrd and jvc units look slightly better, but you'll never know once it's in your home. Not to mention you will save almost a $1,000
I've seen the 60" SXRD side-by-side with the Samsung HL-S6187 both being fed the "infamous" Hawaii 1080i feed in parallel. It was obvious that both of these TVs were head-and-shoulders above everything else in the store, but it was unclear which TV had a better PQ.

Being able to watch them getting the same incredible feed at the same time, it was obvious that the SXRD did better on some details, and the Samsung was better on others.

Based solely on PQ I could be happy with either, but the Samsung has a significant price advantage being much less expensive than the Sony.

I could have bought either. I've got a HL-S5688W on order -- that says it all.
i went with the sxrd over any tv i watched in my price range. im sure if you wanted to save money you could go with the samsung and be just as happy with it. but to me it was about being absolutely satisfied. the sxrd has done that. no green blobs, purple blacks, or any other known issues for that matter. maybe a little game lag but it has a game setting that fixed that problem.

to me samsungs track record didnt sit well. they have had lots of video lag and lyp synch issues on previous dlp models.

btw i got my sxrd for very close to $1700. so you could say the price made it an easy choice.

Westa6969........ What set did you feel had better ( deeper ) blacks ?? curious to see if the Sammy's new auto iris improves the blacks. Did the SXRD have better detail ?? I am very interested in your opinion because even though I know from your posts you LOVE the SXRD, I know your objective and fair. My local tweeter will be getting the Sammy HL-S next week and I can't wait to do a side by side of both. Cost is really not a factor, I am making my decision on what set has the best PQ. KDS-R60XBR1 vs. HL-S6188W But as you stated above, I sure do like the cabinet on the Sammy and the 1080p inputs are a bonus for the future Blue- Ray DVD player.

What is the difference between HL-S6188W and the HL-S6187W?

Thanks.
The only difference between the two is that the 88 model has picture in picture capability. This would be useful if you are hooking up the TV directly to signal sourse using TV's own cable card. However, if your satellite receiver has picture in picture mode than you don't need this extra feature in TV. The difference in price between 87 and 88 is ~$900. I personally don't think it's worth the price differece. Everything else is exactly the same.
Question ... if a person were to use a set top box anyhow (for DVR purposes), would it matter if you had PIP anyhow since you wouldn't be able to use it with HD channels through the box? I would guess you'd have to use the cable card to use PIP unless you just hooked a coax up to the back as well. The DVR set top box from the cable company here has PIP, but you can't split the screen.

actually the 88 series adds PIP, a slightly different bezel, and cable card. Also, the difference between the 6187 and 6188 is only $300.
Have anyone actually seen the picture quality of HL-S6187 and 88? Is there any difference?

I must say I disagree. The SXRD makes every thing look good, including a 1080i feed. It is noticably 1080p.
