Hello, I need some help with my system.


Might help if i first tell you what kit I have.


I have a cable box which connects through HDMI.

PS3 which connects through HDMI


TV which has a VGA input and only 1 HDMI input.


Sony STRDH510 AV Unit


Now I know I need to get some speakers. I am looking at these Logitech Z323.


I havn't purchased the speakers yet but I am unsure whether I would be able to connect them to the AV receiver. Is there anyway I could connect the 3.5mm jack to the unit?


I really want to resolve this as soon as possible but I need to know whether I can connect these PC speakers to my system.

Hmm ,so you want us to tell you what type of speakers you need? How to connect them?

Why would you want to connect PC speakers to an AVR?

If for some really dumb reason you want to connect PC speakers for an AVR, you need one with pre-outs.


Pre-out is just that...a pre-out(no further explanation should be necessary)


Then you get three of these...

They main reason is cost... I live in a very small apartment. I know that sound quality wise I'm better off getting bigger speakers but I really don't need that much power so PC speakers would be perfect...I just don't know that they'd work... as they connect via a normal headphone socket like the ones in an ipod.


I need to know whether PC speakers would work with my AV receiver.

Does your Sony have pre-outs for all channels?


Look at the back panel.


If it has pre-outs, the answer is yes.

If it does NOT have pre-outs, the answer is no.

No you don't have pre-outs, so no you can't connect PC speakers...


But wait, actually "you can" if you get enough of these...

So, you "could" spend $80 on "making this work" (by the way, do you actually already have PC speakers?????)...or add the $80 to your actual speaker budget.

If you really want to use a receiver, then go through all that to hook up computer speaker...sure...

Search around. There are lower end full 5.1 speaker systems available for not much more money.


Maybe just start with two pair of half decent bookshelf speakers and run 4.0 for a while.
