I am planning on buying a 7.1 system from ED

With the A7-350, the price is around 900ish with the EQ.2 and 1300W amp.

Its my dedicated room 22x11x9 so its ok if its big and ugly =)

Can I do better at the price that I am looking at? I can go up to $1200-$1500 range but these days now more than ever, I should be saving my hard earned money...

Short of going the DIY route, I'd highly doubt you'll find a better subwoofer for $900 than the A7-350, especially if your main purpose is HT. If you're looking for someone to knock some sense into you because you can't afford to buy it right now, then I'll do it - don't buy it!
OTOH, if you're simply wondering if you can get more bang for your buck, again, the only way I think you'll best the A7-350 for $900 is by building your own sub.

I have the budget for it. In fact originally I was going to go with HSU vtf3-mk3 or the SVS equivalent.

I just keep checking this forum and seeing people talk about Epik Castle (which I checked you can't get) or the SVS ultra (but thats much more)

then I start to think.. hmm.. am I making the right decision. My problem is as with all the Internet direct vendors is that I can't demo them (except HSU)

I just don't want to make a mistake. ED has a restock fee plus the shipping back is a killer in case I wasn't happy with the sub

Thats the thing blued888, If I don't have to spend the money on an ultra and get almost the same HT performance, I will take it.

Problem is has anyone been able to compare in person the PB13-Ultra vs the ED A7-350???

I own a PB13, but have never heard the A7. I would speculate that the A7 performance might rival the PB13 with potentially even greater output. The PB13 will be able to play deeper when set to a deeper tuning and has a whole lot of built-in features and is, of course, beautiful all of which you pay for. It also has one of the best customer service departments behind it. Bang-for-the-buck would have to go to eD.

Have You Looked At Craigs Sub`s Reviews?

The A7-350 is a newer model that Craig never reviewed.

A7-350 is not listed on craigsub's review summary. The A5-350 is. On that note, the A7-350 is probably somewhere between the A5-350 and the PB13-Ultra?

Do it right the first time and you won't have any regrets. No truer words have ever been spoken than you get what you pay for, with that said, PB13 Ultra all the way, but then of course I am slightly bias and an incredibly happy owner
FWIW, my original budget was $500-$600 lol.

You sound like one of those "what if" people, which means if you simply "settle" for a purchase, then you will never be quite happy, always wondering... Don't settle, buy the sub you really want.

With that line of thinking then I might just step up to the Epik Conquest =) comparable price to the SVS ultras...

As mentioned in your original post, with most these ID companies, if your not completely happy, then shipping it back can be costly. It cost me $60 to send back an A2-300. There was nothing wrong with the sub, I just made a huge error in when buying it. The "hype" got me and I did not do my homework on what type of sub I needed for my room. I was new, heck I still am, to all of this. Long story short, I did not make the same mistake twice... I got more sub than I will ever need. My wife even loves the Rosenut finish on the Ultra.

Given the subs your looking at, I highly doubt you will be disappointed with any of em.

Good luck with the decision, I was in your shoes a few weeks ago. Hell I even switched my order last second from a PC-12 Plus to the Ultra, leave no doubt =)

SQ-wise may be. Output-wise I'd guess it's at the level of the latter if not slightly above.

If you can handle big and ugly, go for it.

It's not ugly if you pay a bit extra for the matte finish, and it's pretty much same cubic feet as pb13, so neither big nor ugly.

I'm afraid I know next to nothing about building my own. Can you point out good reading resources and how I might be able to do DIY? Knowing my luck and skills, I might end up with something worse than BOSE
