I'm really new to this. Here is a system I've settled on after reading this site for a few days.

Needs: TV,Movies 70%, music 30%. Music more at low volume than high.

Space: 26x22 ft room w 10 ft ceilings, listening area is really just about 12 ft at one end.

Speakers: Aperion 4t fronts, 5c center, 10D SW. I'll likely add the 4BP surrounds at a later date.

AVR: Still up in the air on this one. I've heard Aperions don't play well with Yamaha. I'm thinking Onkyo HT RC180 but I'm betting I could find something acceptable for about $150 less.

How am I doing so far?

Aperions are decent sounding speakers that look really nice (you pay extra for that piano gloss finish). What's your budget?

My budget had been creeping up. After looking at HTiBs, I thought that I should be able to get an AVR and some good speakers for about $1500. I don't think that I need a huge amount of volume but I keep nudging up my price point mainly due to the size of the room. The speakers above will run about 1800 and another 400 when I get the surrounds.

Any sort of finish you prefer? The 4T/5C setup should do you fine, but I would go with something else for a sub. Something like an HSU STF-2 would outperform that Bravus 10D. I'm not sure why... maybe it's the way it's tuned or the drivers they use, but the dual 10's in the 10D only goes down to 30hz for its -3db point. However, the single 10" in the HSU goes down to 25hz for its -2db point. It can probably go down to 22-23hz for its -3db point. It also costs HALF of the Bravus 10D. If you are set to spend $799 on a sub, you have plenty of options in that range.
