Hi guys

I have bought the Sammy 56in Tantus DLP for a few reasons,

however I can not for the life of me find out why they say the tantus is Sammy's best. What are the technical differances in the Tantus verses the standard?

Thanks,

Jim

The big difference is the letters, T-A-N-T-U-S.

No technical differences at all.

The Tantus models are guaranteed to have discrete codes for power and inputs. The other models may or may not depending on the firmware it comes with.

If you get a Tantus that doesn't have discrete codes, Samsung will upgrade the firmware on your set so it will.

If you have a non Tantus model and no discrete codes, you can't call Samsung to upgrade firmware for that. Now if you have other issues, and your firmware gets upgraded you'll probably get discrete products as well..

Other than that, there are no technical differences, just cosmetic ones.

I was unaware of that....cool. The only reason I bought the Tantus was because they are better looking, cosmetically...IMO

Is all this still the case? I thought that there was no current difference between the tantus and non-tantus any longer. And that these 'features' were from last year or so.

So, if these are still current, are all models available in tantus, or only the high-end ones (the 'three digit' models...)?

On the samsungusa.com site there is no distinction among DLP set. They all are listed as 1 year warranties. Could you have been on their International site?

That's what I remembered now... the Tantus is an international 'rating', and all US sets are identical except for some cosmetic variations.

Lee, you are correct. I saw the information on www.samsung.ca, while looking for information on the HCN473W, which is available in the US from Buy.COM and other etailers.

Sorry for having added to the confusion.

Yesterday, we saw the HCN4727W, the model offered in the US, and ended up buying the 48" Mits WS48413 for a couple of hundred dollars more.

In Canada all Tantus models include a three year warranty, which is on-site on the large sets (anything 32" or larger, as I recall).
