TC-10 PR Small Enclosure Build

826 Views 3 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  theskuh
So I had this old alpine 10" tube enclosure that I figured I could put a new driver in and use it in my HT. I wasn't looking for anything special but stumbled on to the tcsounds site and found their OEM 10 and 10"PR's on sale.

The info posted on the site said that the OEM 10 works great in a .5 -.6 cubic foot enclosure. My tube enclosure is about that size. So I ordered up a sub and a pr.

I am pretty new to sub building and probably should have went another route with this build. I have been searching out info on passive radiator subs and have found some but don't feel totaly sure that this setup will work well. All of the PR info I have read has said to have a larger pr than the main woofer. The PR I have for this is the same size and if I want to keep the tube will have to be. The info on tcsounds says if I wanted to tune it low i would need a 12" pr.

So should I scrap the tube idea and just build a small cube? if I did this I would probably add another PR. I have messed around with unibox and danmarx's passive radiator spreadsheet and it seems I could tune it down to the mid 20's with the pr that i have. I can't seem to get the dual pr numbers to come out right though. I am not sure what the graph should look like in unibox.

Do you think this will be an acceptable little sub? I am not worried about having subsonics but just would like something that would fill out my HT abit. I am not OCD with having the best most accurate sound but would like something small that works ok.

So give me your thoughts

I played around with that sub in WinISD for my friend. What I came up with was 1.2ft^3 box with two 10 VMP's to go along with their OEM10. It modeled very well for that little sub considering the amount of power you can feed it.
watch out for mounting depth on those drivers if you're trying to keep your box size that small! They are nearly 8" deep 10" woofers lol.

No doubt! With the tube they will fit ok. but definately there are issues for sure. I might have to do a 1.2 box and another passive. what were you tuning that box to?
