Hello, I have been reading on all you threads for hours and hours, to the point that I can't sleep. I can't remember having this much trouble picking a display. so here we go........

I currently have a TH-42PZ700U combined with fronts BP7002, center CLR3000, and rears BPVX which I love, and wouldn't change anything. I can honestly tell you I don't really desire better PQ, but I do want a bigger display. I have been remodeling the house and don't have much funds allocated for the HT room right now, so I have been putting it off. then last week I won a $500.00 gift card for BB, so here we go.....

I have my choice of:

PN60F5300

TC-P60S60

TC-P60ST60

TC-P60GT50 (last years model, new in box)

or

TC-P65VT50 (last years model, has been on display for only 3 months would verify hours used to confirm)

I have always bought highest model available, and this is the first time I am considering buying a entry level model, how ever I have read a lot of reviews on PN60F5300 and every one says it's not as good as the Panasonics, but i'm comparing it to my current model.

my biggest fear is since i'm going from a 42 to a 60 (viewing distance is 9').

so there you have my dilemma i'd rather not spend the money right now, but I can't see passing up a 65VT50 for $1500.00 (all accessories: stand, remote instructions are in original package) so which you would you buy???????

any input would be appreciated. sorry if I posted in the wrong section, thank you.

Wow! This is exactly my dilemma around 1 month ago.. Almost exactly..

I'm also coming from a 42" screen, but an old Toshiba 1080i LCD.. And my viewing distance is 2.5 meters (~8 feet).

Final decision between 60ST60 or 65VT50. (Since they don't sell 65ST60 in my country).

I choose 65VT50 because of mainly 2 reason:

1. It's 5" bigger. Sitting 2.5 meters (~8 feet) from a 65" screen is awesome!

2. I want the best preset option like THX Cinema. (because I can't find any TV calibrators in here).

But your decision is slightly harder because you can choose 65ST60.

IMHO, if your room is bright and you want the THX Cinema preset, go with VT50..

If you can control your room lights and don't need the THX preset, go with ST60..

I'm suggesting this because VT50 uses Infinite Black Ultra filter, whether ST60 uses Infinite Black Pro filter..

Tough call. I think pq wise these 2 TV's have more in common then different. I would probably go with the better price TV. If you game though the ST60 has terrible input lag. I do not know what the lag is on the VT50 but I am guessing it is better the the ST60.

I think you can't go wrong with either TV. If you want to go with the VT50, I would check that thread and see if that TV suffered with soft images on HD cable content like the GT50 did last year. If that is the case I would probably go with the ST60 as pictures are not soft like last years models.

Another thing to consider is the ST60 is new in box. Make sure to check the screen well if you go VT50. Bargain them down as much as you can on that TV if you go with it. Maybe even convince them to drop the price enough that you can purchase a 2 year extended warranty with it. They might be willing to drop the price so you can do this as it looks good for them selling extended warranties. How much did they offer the VT50 to you anyway?

The softness is variable, some notice it some don't its just like the IR problems. I don't find the picture to be soft at all on my VT50 so opininons vary on that for sure. I would only hesitate on the VT50 because it is not new.

well looked at the P65VT50 , I was going to go to day after work and see if I could get the price down more.

i had read a lot about the input lag on the ST60, but i don't do any gaming so i'm ok there.

i really didn't want to spend more than $500, out of my own pocket but i don't want to pass up a great deal.

here's the thing, my house is a bit small. 2 bed, 2 bath, 1 home theater. it use to be 3 bed 2 bath, but i have always been a home theater fanatic. my last tv was a Samsung HL-R5688W, may it forever rest in peace. i miss the PQ on that tv. anyways, i have two small boys (4yr, and 1yr) and need more space, so in the nest 5 yr i will be a) building a family room/home theater or b) buying a larger house. that's the only reason i was thinking to go with the F5300, because when i get the larger room a or b, i will be getting a real home theater display, and a screen come down in front of it.

i was at BB last night showing my wife the F5300, and she said ok, then i showed her the ST and she was like WOW, so i guess the F5300 is off the table.

well that's one reason that has kept me from buying the VT50, if it was new i would have bought it on the spot. if i go the ST route then i might wait a few more weeks to see if the price comes down a bit, and i can save some more money.

Personally i wouldn't buy a display model and the ST60 is pretty much the equal of the VT50, size being equal go with the new set imo

even if the display has only been up for 3 months and all the accessories (remote, stand, manual) are still wrap from the factory?????

i would be saving $600 buying the VT50 over the ST60

Nothing wrong with display models. Great deals can be had on it. Plus, if anything was going to be wrong with the TV it would have shown it's face already so usually you will see if something is wrong or not.

Also, you still have 15 days to return. I got a great deal on a floor model 60es7500. It has been put through it's initial stress test so I know the TV I got works. They say of something is wrong with a TV it usually goes bad in the first few months.

Also, you should still get the 1 year manufacturer warranty. BB can't throw in an extended warranty but they can drop the price of the TV so you can purchase it although at the price they offered you I do not think they will drop the price on that. If the BB store had a 65VT50 on display I would have taken that when I returned my ST60 but they had none so took the es7500.

Another good thing about floor model plasma's is you will know how well it handles IR. If the screen is clean you will know the panel is pretty good.

My brother has the 51" F5300 and it is very nice for an entry level plasma and compared to everything at the price he bought it, but not in the class of the ST60 and VT...totally different price points. However, to be honest, I thought it surpassed my ST30 even though the blacks aren't as deep. Really nice color and whites right out of the box with proper settings. And, yes, it is sharper than my ST30 no matter what anyone claims otherwise.

That doesnt' surprise me 2013 vs 2011 model. I had a 2011 D530 for a while the sharpeness was better but I preferred the look and the blacks on the ST30, really no comparison contrast ratio wise but if Samsung back migrated some of the 8500 technology I am sure they are improved across the board

Yeah, I believe they did migrate some of it as the F5300 has the Dark Optimizer option like the F8500. As mentioned, the blacks are definitely better on my ST30 - notably so. But even with his set in a dark room toning down the brightness, there was just something about the image more appealing...more alive. I don't know if this is just better ABL (I think it might be) as the whites just looked cleaner than my calibrated ST30 and they really did look whiter. I kept thinking to myself with great blacks, this set would be phenomenal (hence got me thinking about the F8500) as that was the only weakness I saw. Glare was pretty bad too, but he can control the light pretty well. He was going buy a low end Insignia LED instead but I talked him out it.

good news/ bad news!

I couldn't wait till after work, so I took an extended lunch
, I went buy the BB that had the 65VT50 and it was gone. so I guess that's a sign from the Home Theater GODS, lol. I guess the choice is 60" ST60.

now the question is buy it now or wait till the price comes down?

right now i'm getting it for $1,399 +Tax. should I wait or just buy it now???

has anyone heard of a better price????

That was no sign, it is called someone saw an amazing deal and jumped on it! I figured you were at least having them hold it for you. Once you left that store I could have told you it would be gone by the time you went back.

I still think you are better off with a new ST60 plus comes with 3d glasses
