Ok, about two weeks ago my PC started acting funny. Basically, in a nutshell, the LEFT ctrl key will turn on by itself.

So I'm in the middle of scrolling a webpage and suddenly mymouse wheel starts making the fonts jack up/down. Hitting the right CTRL key does nothing. Hitting the LEFT ctrl key stops it.

Sometimes the problem returns 2 seconds later....sometimes it takes hours for the problem to return. Also when the CTRL key is "pressed" by this phantom thing going on, the keyboard functions as it should with CTRL pressed....L will lock, K will do something else, O will open...and the main mouse button is now multiple-highlighting (like holding down CTRL and clicking on things to select them all).

So I go "Gee....my $10 keyboard is flakin out". So I replace it with a $20 keyboard, USB (my old one was PS/2). Welp, the problem persists.

So next I think "****...MalWare....or worse..a Keylogger..I knew those creepy porn sites weren't worth it". McAfee finds nothing, Defender finds nothing, even some of the toher apps like A-Squared find nothing. I had another app looking for keyloggers or RootKit exploits...nothing.

So basically....I'm stumped as to what the hell is going on.

No: StickyKeys is turned off, disabled, as are all of those keyboard shortcuts. I even went to XP sp3 (Gasp!) just to see if that would make the problem go away (desperate, i know). Nope.

Its an annoyance...I dont mind it..I can deal..plus the new keyboard is nice
But honestly, anyone have any idea? I just hate to think there's a keylogger or some creepy undetectable malware sitting around. Didn't see much of interest in TaskManager, but who knows whats hiding there.

Any ideas?

If you don't mind doing lots of scans, I'd do a full scan (not the quick one it defaults to) with Windows Defender, one with Spybot S&D, Lavasoft Ad-Aware (the free version is fine), and Trendmicro's House Call.

I know it seems like overkill but there's always something that one of them or another won't catch.

HeadRusch, Do you have a Nostromo Speedpad connected?

Sometimes mine will get a stuck key. Left control... crouch or something huh?

Negative, just a regular old keyboard via PS2....and I switched it out to a USB keyboard.

And the problem persists.

However, I think I am on to something. My mouse is a logitech wireless laser mouse. And one of my buttons is programmed to CTRL-W....to close down a window.

Lately my mouse has been double-registering button presses sometimes. Like I click Mouse1 and it registers Two clicks. How much you wanna bet the mouse is the one occsaionally sending some weird W.

I'm going to disable that key and see if thats got something to do with it.

The Plot Thicks

(but at least I've run 20 spyware apps and so far my system is nice and clean! Errr..assuming it hasn't been infected BY one of those anti-malware apps
)

I'm wondering if my mouse isn't starting to glitch out now and then, and is send
