Still no release date I can find, just "spring" or "Q2" which makes me think probably not until May. Maybe not until a date that gives them time to account for this year's draft.

Not sure how I feel about the graphics, and it looks like the old-style option might also limit you to a 4:3 ratio. I'd prefer something more like halfway between the old graphics and the new option.

I'll probably have to get this when it comes out. Used to play the mess out of Super Tecmo bowl.

Same here. I will get this if and when it comes out. Loved playing this back in the day.

Was the last TSB to come out for the SNES or Genesis? I remember one of them having a special edition of some kind. I started with the original TB which had what, 8 or 12 teams? 4 plays per team, usually only 1 really good player per team.

I was blown away when I played a later TSB that had all the teams, more plays (and changeable playbook!), trades, create-a-player, coaching mode, and weather!

Really, if this plays like the last version(s) of TSB I won't even glance at Madden.

Yep....9 volt. I haven't played it for years but I actually dug it out last night (because of this thread) and it still works.

That was our "on the bus" game...we'd be huddled around playing that on the way to school. Much like kids do with the DS now.

I have said it many time on this site and it is worth saying again..

Tecmo Super Bowl for the original NES is the best video game ever made. I have been an avid gamer since 1985 and nothing has come close to its ability to bring people together, tear them apart, create extreme emotional highs, create extreme emotional lows, kill an entire day, kill an entire week, kill an entire summer, and on, and on...

The game has it all. One game takes the perfect amount of time to play. Not too long, not too short. It is just real enough to satisfy most and contains just enough unrealistic stuff to make it amazingly fun. 100+ yd runs --> got it. 100+ yd passes (in the air) --> got it. DBs that can cover the entire field --> got it. Quarterbacks that are faster than all running backs --> got it. Sweeta$$ animations for interceptions, touchdowns, halftime, etc. --> got it. Pat Beach --> got him.

This game has everything. There is nothing more fun than getting a few friends together, grabbing a 30-sided die, and bangin' out a TSB tournament. No play changes, random week advancement so all the players aren't average condition, and half a day's worth of time in front of you make for a wicked good time.

Not too many games that are that old still have national tournaments.

man we used to do all nighters with this game. everyone would choose their teams, wed forward the regular season and make sure those teams made the playoffs. then we play each other until someone wins the superbowl. we used to be like 10 people playing this till morning.

my teams were san diego chargers and sometimes the bengals. nobody was allowed to use the 49ers giants or bills. they were just too good.

We used to do the same thing, all night games, getting to the superbowl, it was awesome!

I've got a ton of nostalgia around this game, I wonder how the gameplay itself will translate.

From what I've been able to dig up I am no longer looking forward to this game. It sounds like it's going to use rosters based on the 1993 game and will not have seasons that rollover or custom players. If they can add a draft/rookies, modern rosters (fake names are fine), and a franchise mode for the sequel (all things that were in the later versions) then I would be VERY excited.

Anyway, brief interview and clips:

I agree, TSB for the original NES was the tops of gaming. That game owns so many hours of me and my friends lives I dare not even imagine the number.

We used to have a joke about the game too. We always said no game of Super Tecmo Bowl has ever ended with someone peacefully pressing the power button. Every game ever played ended wtih a controller being thrown into the console!

and as for orignal Tecmo bowl, all I have to say is Cap Boso on the slant for a first down = money in the bank.

Release date announced, April 28th, $10.

At that price I might buy it, but what I really, REALLY want is the Tecmo gameplay with modern rosters.
