At the end of next month I will be moving from just north of baltimore to Frederick, MD. Of course, HDTV is playing a BIG part in my choices of where to live. From my current location, I can get all 4 network affilates with a Silver Sensor mounted on my 3rd floor apartment cieling. What is HD reception like in Frederick? Do you get DC or baltimore stations? Will the Silver Sensor cut it, or will I need something bigger? Antennaweb.org says I need a "medium directional" antenna, but that doesn't tell me much. Id rather hear about how much gain I will need.

This next part is slightly off topic for this forum area, but Ill ask anyway. I could not find any info from Comcast about Frederick. Does Comcast have HD and 2-wy cable modem service in Frederick? The cable modem I absolutly can't live without, but the HD cable is important if I can't get satellite.

Anyone help?

Thanks!

Reception:

From Fredneck...I mean Frederick, you can get both Baltimore and DC stations. You'll probably want something like a CM 4221 with a pre-amp.

I tried the SS w/ CM pre-amp (I'm about 7 miles west of Frederick) and didn't have great results. I know of others in Frederick who use unamplified outdoor antennas and have semi-satisfactory results. You may want to see how your SS does once you are here. If you want to borrow a 4221 to test out, send me a pm.

Now for the bad news... No comcast here, sorry. Just adelphia. :(

I wish we had comcast here...I have wet-dreams about it at night. Unfortunately it looks like we are stuck with this morally and financially bankrupt, sorry-excuse of a cable company. Of course Adelphia is not offering HD cable here, at least not yet. Adelphia is rolling out HD service in So. Cal and other locations are rumored soon. I've seen ads locally on adelphia which say its coming soon, but no specifics were mentioned.

Modem:

Now for the good news.... Adelphia does offer 2-way cable modem service... I have it and it's not too bad.

From Frederick, the Baltimore stations shouldn't be a problem with a good quality outdoor antenna. Washington could be more of a problem, but not really that difficult either if the stations are near full power. Indoor antennas are unlikely to work for either location.

When Antennaweb.org says "medium directional" you should be looking for a high-gain model like the Channel Master 4228. If you're not too close to Frederick radio and television stations, a good preamp would be a good idea as well.
