Hi all,

I am new to calibration, and have spent a goodly number of hours reading all the commonly linked threads, as well as general forum posts to try and get a solid idea about all the different terms and processes involved.  I have a Panasonic 60S60 plasma to play with, and a retail i1 Display 3 meter.  (I am aware of and willing to accept the expected average error of an un-profiled meter for now)..  Unless I lose patience with HCFR and purchase a retail software solution, that's what I'll be attempting to use.  For patterns, I have the Spears and Munsil disc, plus all the free solutions from the forum I have yet to burn (AVS709, GCD, Mascior's).

I played with the meter and software a bit on the weekend, and got my grayscale looking nice, but ran into trouble with color.  I have HCFR set to 75% Rec 709 as is commonly recommended for plasma and was using the 75% Equal Energy Gamut patterns from the S&M disc.  According to my results, these are plotting 75% luminance, but 100% saturation.  Can anyone confirm that?  Generally, if the folder on one of these discs simply says 75% colors are they generally referring only to luminance?  I am assuming that 75% Rec 709 is expecting 75% luminance AND 75% saturation?

Lastly, when reading through all the postings, is Y, luminance, brightness, lightness, stimulus, and amplitude referring to the same attribute?  Or do some of these terms refer to the window size and/or whether there's other elements on the screen to produce matching APL?

Thanks for any feedback and patience with a newbie!

For your set your best bet is GCD, it has the 75/75 patterns you need. Mascoir's disc is optomized for Chromapure not sure it can be used accurately with HCFR.. The AVS709 large windows are too large imo

Zoyd said it doesn't have problems...

Though if you are using Masior's disc, don't check the AVS greyscale checkbox in HCFR. I think it's to be left unchecked for GCD as well. Checkbox is only for AVS709/DVE... I'm not sure where Spears and Munsil falls under that.
