I'd like to test if my red tube is the cause of my PJ not starting.

Is it safe to disconnect the HV at the splitter and also the focus red focus from the bias/focus board and the turn the PJ on to see if the green and blue still works?

Do I need to insulate somehow the splitter and maybe also where the focus lead was connected?

I'm slowly getting there I hope, thanks guys!

Sir

That is exactly how to do it; put some bubble-wrap between the splitter and any metal to reduce chance of a big arc, that is 34,000 volts there and it can jump a ways. Also, look into the lens with a flashlite for shattered tube face and see if the filament lights up in the gun, a tube gone to air will have a burned open filament. Tubes that crack during operation usually ruin the high voltage power supply due to a big arc.
