Testing Coaxil connections

287 Views 2 Replies 2 Participants Last post by  CJO
I am building a new house, and we had it all pre-wired for coaxil. While I was not at the site, the coax went in and the sheetrock was put up., and the genius installer didn't label the ends, or even put connections on them.

My question is this:

What is the easiest way to test the ends of the coax to see what room the terminate in (they all are grouped in the attic)?

I was thinking of attaching a nine volt battery to one end, and then testing each room's connection with a cheap power meter? Would this work, or any other ideas? I don't have any cable or antenna connection now.

Thanks in advance.

That's probably the easiest way.

If you don't mind spending a little money, there are also instruments you can buy that let you "sound" a line. You basically send a signal down the line and use a receiver to locate the line. The good thing about this is that you don't actually have to touch the line with the receiver to find it, so it is quite a bit faster if you don't have all your coaxial cables grouped into one location.
