I'm looking for reference clips or test patterns that I can use to compare scaling and deinterlacing performance of various dvd players and tv's at different resolutions (480i through 1080p). Is there anything freely available for download? Does DVE or Getgray have some patterns and clips that would be suitable?

There are no formal test patterns for scaling that I know off. Generally, reviewers simply look at a pattern that contains a single row of pixels to see if it exhibits ringing.


The best disc to test deinterlacing is the Silicon Optics Benchmark DVD. An HD DVD for HD tests will be soon available.

While Googling recently, came across this summary article (several pages) of the HD HQV test disc, still apparently only available to reviewers. Some of the tests, such as for 540p bobbing, are also available as computer software at dr1394's site . This post indicates the HD DVE test disc is now shipping. -- John
