TH-58PX60U... Should I buy? URGENT Advice Needed.

OK guys. I am in urgent need of your advice on whether I should purchase the TH-58PX60U now, for the really low price they are going for, or wait for the next generation to release.

Here's the deal. My wife gave me the thumbs up to buy it. I could place the order today if I decide. However, I want to make sure I am not going to be disappointed when the 2007 displays come out because they blow away this model. With that said, I wouldn't buy one anyway until prices came way down, which will probably not happen until close to the 2008 display release and that will simply put me back in the boat I'm in today.

I know there is a lot of information on here about the Panasonic TH-58PX60U and I have read a lot of it. I've already decided that this display will more than fulfill my needs/wants and I already own a 42" Panny Plasma that I am really happy with. Do you guys know if there are going to be huge improvements between this display and the next generation? And what is the likely that street prices will be close or the same as today's going pice for this unit?

I really appreciate any advice you can give.

Seems to me that you've answered your own question. If price were no object, you'd buy the new model at whatever price they set. But IMO the recent huge price drops on the 58" Pannys simply make them the best deal possible for sets >50". I got my 58PX600U last Fall for a lot more money than this, and I thought I got a great deal at the time. Now, they're just irresistable.

I also can't imagine that the new models will "blow away" the current models. There are plenty of posts on this forum which show how close to the screen you have to sit in order to tell the difference between 1080p and 768p, and those stats don't make me want to rush out and get a 1080p set. I have been thrilled with the PQ, and certainly would not want to wait another year or so before enjoying HD on a big screen set.

I might be wrong on this, but I think the answer is pretty clear. That 58" plasma represents HUGE value for the dollar. Yes, there is tech coming in the form of higher res plasma's, and Pioneer's improved blacks plasmas, but that tech isn't coming "free", rather it's coming at quite a premium. If you have more money to spend then waiting might be worth while. But if your budget is below 3,000 dollars then what the heck are you waiting for!!! BANG BANG PULL THE TRIGGER.

Peace,

Dreamaster
I just recently got the 58px60u. I was doing what you were doing, waiting for the new models to come out for the 50". I could not pass up a deal this good. It would cost $4-600 more for the new 50" pany's, compared to the 58" 60u. I think you will not be disapointed. the PQ is outstanding. I beleive there is a difference, but I doubt you will be able to tell a significant difference. Plus if you keep waiting, there is always going to be something better out. If you wait until 2008 you will be asking yourself if you should spend X amount, or wait for the new line. Go for it and don't look back.
How long are you going to keep it? What are you going to do with it, when you are done with it? Sell it?

LOL!!! You guys basically gave me what I needed... I nice kick in the rear to get me to decide. I was just a little hesitant because I have a tendency to act like a kid in a candy store when my wife signs off on a "purchase requisition".
Yet another reason to pull the trigger. Once you have the purchasing committee on your side, you'd better strike fast before they change their mind.

Well guys... I just pulled the trigger. Ordered it from Vanns.com. I was going to order from Visual Apex because they were so great when I ordered my last plasma and my projector/screen but I had to go with Vanns. Couldn't pass up the free Harmony remote and the free shipping. Especially since I've read good things about them on here.

I tried getting Visual Apex to match the free shipping but they wouldn't. In the end, I got a TV, Remote and shipping for the $100 less than I would have paid for just the TV and shipping at VA.

Thanks again for all your help.

Hey man, I just bought my 58px60u and I absolutely love it. I had a 50" version of it and the clarity on the 58 is so much better. I also bought a HD player and the set will except 1080p over HDMI. The clarity is just great and I couldnt be happier with the savings I got. I say go for it if your getting a deal. A deal is a state of mind but I paid 1800.00 and then got a -200.00 rebate from panasonic for installation. So yeah I got a deal....

Neoison, where on earth did you find it for that price?!? Please point me in the right direction so I can do the same!
WT? 1800 bucks... where? That 600 more than what I just paid. Oh... and does anyone know if the 200 rebate only works if you get it professionally installed? Or can you get the rebate if you DIY install?

Yes it has to be professionally installed. I got it from HHgregg in ohio. New In Box plus I got free delivery and a fee HDMI cable. I had to pay 6% sales tax on top.

Diddnt you mean you paid 800 more? The way you worded it is that 1800 was 600 more than you paid. LOL I would take it for 1200.00 again for my bedroom and one in my kitchen and on the ceiling. Hell one in the garage for that price.

Oops... typo on my part. Yeah, I actually paid 700 more than what you paid... 900 if you include the rebate.

I checked the HHgregg site and they have it listed at 2699.00 as the sale price. Did you have some sort of discount coupon or something???
he went into a hhgregg store and got a good deal on an open box th58px60u. they delivered it but it came with broken glass so they replaced it with a new one in box, very lucky there. neo it does hurt to tell the story so as not to get them too excited about getting that deal like it was soo easy. continental one pass had them for 3+ weeks at $1768 delivered but pulled it when they found they had made a pricing error. they still have it now for $2278 total delivered. I think the panny $200 rebate offer is over though for the wall mount. Neo, so you paid $1908 plus a wall mount and what about any install fees? minus the rebate, have you gotten the rebate back from panasonic already?? still a great deal on a big plasma. IF you bought it before 5/13 you can send the reabte in, but would need at least a receipt showing you paid someone to install it. (DIY may be ok but get your brother dad whoever to write out a receipt to you
. If DIY, tthe receipt showing where they/you also bought a wall mount for it would help as well as showing payment for the install service.

I just set up my 58PX60U today. My god, is she huge and thin.

I am very happy. I also picked up a Panasonic DVD Player which upconverts via HDMI so it was like Christmas Morning. SDTV is okay - garbage in garbage out - but my xbox 360 and HD Channels also breath life in this beauty and the clarity for such a big plasma is staggering.

No buyer remorse here.

Cheers,

C

Get yourself a HD DVD player or Blue Ray, your going to want to feed that thing as much HD content as possible.

I got my 58PX60U last week. Like most others here I debated about the getting the newer generation, but I am happy to say there are no buyer's remorse feelings here. Unfortunately, I now have the itch to get the HD DVD player from Costco. I guess I'll have to wait until Father's day.....

I got a PS3 for my 58PX600U a couple of weeks ago. I won't deny it: Blu-Ray looks very nice on this set. But the difference between BD and standard DVD's is not huge, because IMO the 58 Panny does an outstanding job with standard DVD's. I'm ashamed to say that my wife can't tell the difference (or maybe she doesn't care, which is more likely I guess).
