TH-58PZ700U or 60A3000

putting cost aside. Which would have the better image quality for both HD and SD picture. My brother has the TH-58PZ700U TV. I finally convinced him to get me the 55a3000 from vanns but now after watching the cnet report, hes interested in the 60a3000 for himself as well and going to sell the 58" plasma. Now would that be a wise choice? Does the a3000 have better picture quality? Cnet seems to rate the TH-58PZ700U about 7 notches below the a3000 55" model. So whats your take? Hes looking to make the purchase today so vanns can try and get them out today. Also I been waiting on the a3000 for a while and thankfully hes willing to get it for me. I cant wait to be a proud owner of the a3000 myself.

If you never listen to another piece of advice on this forum or an AV magazine, or CNet, listen to this, please. Do YOURSELF a favor, and spend time on YOUR purchase. YOU decide what looks best to YOU. Oh...look at it from YOUR seating distance.

Good luck, and best wishes.

i saw the 58" and its decent to me. nothing special even after 400 bucks calibrated. my brother thinks the same. however the a3000 I have never seen in person as no local stores have them. Which is why i am here. bestbuy and circuit city dont have them locally and b&H sold out last week.
OK, understood. I'd advise that you drive to somewhere that has the A3000 unit. Money not being an issue, I would go plasma, but then, I despise SSE on the A3000 of mine, and plasma does not exhibit SSE.

People may chime in yada yada yada (pro RP) and same for the plasma boys...but none of us are volunteering to buy the unit for YOU, is my point.

Man, I would drive to "wherever" to view the A3000, and make an informed decision.

I considered both sets and decided on the Sony. For me, seeing the Sony A3000 in a store did not help me decide, but seeing the Panasonic plasma did help me decide against it. I don't think it's possible to find a place for direct comparison of the two. I've been to several Best Buys that have both sets but they have the plasma in Magnolia while the Sony is on the regular showroom floor, so the feeds are different.

When I first saw the two sets in action, I was very disappointed with both. The Sony had serious motion blur and macroblocking and the Panasonic had image processing issues as well. I gave the Sony the benefit of the doubt because it was upconverting SD signals and Ultimate AV Mag's review said that the native upscaler is pedestrian. The Panasonic however, was being fed HD signal from ESPN. It was the Outback Bowl and I found that the Panasonic was almost unwatchable. All the players and white line markers on the field had huge pixelated shells around them. I did not see this problem on the Pioneer Kuro and Sony XBR5 screens mounted next to the Panasonic. I crossed off the Panasonic after this incident.

I decided on the Sony A3000 mainly due to positive magazine reviews and feedback on this forum. I've gone to several stores to check out the Sony in action but the store feeds were always horrible.

I compared these two displays in friends homes and at B&M's. The latter is a waste of time unless that's your only option. In two comparisons, where I was allowed to tweak the settings, the Panasonic was the clear winner in a moderately lighted room. Price was a factor for me and I ended up with the 60A3000 because even though I felt the Panasonic was superior in PQ, the Sony was damm good and a $1500 less.
moot. the 60 and 55 a are sold out. funny thing is i think i got the last 55a.
Not moot if you're considering the Panny vs any other RPTV. I bet if you tried hard enough you could still find a 60A3000 or a 55A3000. I saw the 55 last week in a Costco showroom.
My local Tweeter and CC and BB still have their floor modls out of the 60A3000.

Like andy sullivan said, look around they are out there still if that's what you want.
well i guess not moot but im guessing none of you realize the panny is already gotten. he already has it. just contemplating selling it for 2500 or even 2800 and get a 60a3000. However if you say the panny is better than he will keep the panny. IMO though after seeing it even with bestbuy calibration, it is still not that good a picture to say its superb. I would give it a good in terms of picture quality. Then again i have never seen it in bluray. Just ps3 COD3 and sd and hd broadcast using dish network. Plus he may not even find a buy as the box no longer has a bottom to it and replacing such a freakishly huge box like that with no bottom is costly. Also the thing weighs more than my 30" LG CRT. He might just keep it unless someone on craigsist i willing to pickup.
