I tried to hook up my xbox 360 and cable box to both of the component inputs on my th42pz80u but i cant get a picture or sound on it. Anyone have any idea on whats wrong?

Are you sure it's hooked up properly? First, be sure that the green wire is in the green jack -- that should at least give you a black and white image.


Also, are you sure that the TV is displaying the correct input?

do a hard reset it should clear up your prob my px 60 did that once after a long vacation and resetting solved the problem

All the wires are in the correct place and its on the correct input so thats not the problem.


How do you do a hard reset?


Also this is the first time im using the TV so i hope its not defective.

Yea HDMI works.


The picture actually came on from my cable box for a second then went out again. I dont know if that helps determine the problem or not.

Does your power light blinks when this happen? If so, count how times it blinks before it pause and blinks again. You may have a power board problem.

There's a switch on the component cable for the 360, it's on the actual cable itself where it plugs into the 360. Be sure it's set to "HDTV" or you won't see anything.

If you used the XBOX cable for your testing is the switch in the right position per weirdlookinguy's post above? If so that might be the problem. Have you tried different Component cables?


If the Cable Box on Component gave you a picture for only a second before going black, and the XBOX did not even give you a picture, it does sound like a problem with the input board inside the TV. If you also connected the red/white audio cables along with the 3 Component Video cables and got no sound from either device then that's even more evidence that the inputs are bad.


Connect a working DVD player to the Component inputs and if you still don't get a picture or sound, and you're absolutely positive that you've connected the 5 Component cables correctly (Red/Blue/Green for Video and Red/White for Audio) then you'll have to have the set repaired or replaced.

Actually you should be able to see an image regardless of how the Xbox's component cable is set. The PZ80 should be able to display 480i via component.
