Can someone explain how the 'auto' setting in the picture mode works? It seems to make the picture much darker than the other three settings (vivid, standard and cinema). What makes it ‘auto’; does it adjust based on the ambient light?

Also, I have tried to adjust the TH50PX20U/P using AVIA and when the color and tint are properly adjusted using the blue filter, the color without the filter is set too high and flesh tones look over saturated and far too red. I have successfully used AVIA in the past to adjust a TH50PHW3, why will it not work on the TH50PX20U/P?

Yup.

When "AUTO" mode is set, the C.A.T.S (Contrast Automatic Tracking System) automatically senses the ambient light conditions and adjusts the brightness and gradation accordingly, to optimise contrast.

But no matter what light conditions, the picture is always too dark IMO.
