I’m looking for something special: A 7.1 solid state amplifier with:
  • Must: pre-amp output (Pure Direct Mode?) to connect to a separate stereo lamp amp.
  • Must: 2 HDMI input. -> 3 better -> 4 is best.
  • Big Plus: Best video up-scaling possible (1080p), for all those old DVDs.
  • Optional: A digital audio input. A media server in here.
  • Optional: Digital Audio output. Into a DAC-Magic that I intend to get, this is just curiosity to compare the media server and the amp into the DAC-Magic.
    • Option to disable the integrated DAC a plus (digital audio pass-through).

I would prefer to keep it under 1K, since this will surely get replaced in 2 years. At first I got the Denon 2309CI, but reading the SPEC at home I realized it has no pre-amp out! Returning it on Saturday, I would like to get a replacement … but what? Any suggestions?

Now: B&W 703, and a set of 5.1 average speakers -> Trying to create a 7.1 HT while keeping great music.

Next buy: Prima-Luna Prologue
