The 2010 Oscars on ABC HD

Live from the Kodak Theater, Hollywood, CA

Sunday March 7, 2010 8:30pm ET

720p & DD5.1

For the first time in a long time, the Oscars will be co hosted, by Steve Martin and Alec Baldwin.

From The Wrap.com

By Steve Pond
Quote:
The move away from a single host marks a break with the tradition of the past 20 Oscar shows. In 1989, producer Allan Carr used no host and relied on two dozen "friends of Oscar" to present the awards; in the aftermath of what was seen as a disastrous show, an Academy committee recommended sticking to a single host, and that recommendation has been followed ever since.

But a pair of hosts was extremely rare even before that. The format has been used exactly three times in the 81-year history of the Oscars, and never in the past 53 years.

Bob Hope and Jimmy Stewart did the honors in 1946, almost a decade before the first Oscar telecast. Hope and John Cromwell did it the previous year. And back in 1929, the first Oscar ceremony was hosted by Douglas Fairbanks and Academy president William C. deMille.

That's it. Otherwise, according to the Academy's official histories, 62 Oscar shows have had a single host, three have used three hosts, six have used four hosts, and a couple, like Carr's show, went with double-digit assemblages of "friends of Oscar."

50 charities in as many locations will host official viewing parties during the 82nd Academy Awards® ceremony. The events will feature the live broadcast of the Awards presentation, which will be televised by the ABC Television Network.

Ok, folks...the guy who is directing this tonight also did the Super Bowl halftime. If any of you are familiar with him, he selects, not directs per se. This could be interesting.

Something is messed up here. My local ABC is showing a rerun of the Tony Awards.

A quick note about the co-hosts. Martin & Baldwin are the two individuals who have hosted Saturday Night Live the most.

A few minor gaffes already like the shot of James Cameron in the dark and the actors walking in front of the camera going back to their seats.

Neil Patrick Harris is blah.

Must have had another talk with his kid before coming on stage.

Hamish Hamilton directing. Still early but this show is not quite as strong as Super Bowl Halftime was. All the rest of the crew is the same.

Baldwin always look stiff and uncomfortable. I think that suit is made of iron.

Baldwin/Martin made for one of the funnier openings I've seen.
