The Art of Dubbing films

190 Views 0 Replies 1 Participant Last post by  brunsiv
I posted this idea in a previous thread and want to continue discussion of this heated debate.

Why not appreciate film it in its original language?

How can any of you justify DUBBING The Italian only dialogue sequences in The Godfather Part II?

The purpose of maintaining the original language in films like the Godfather or Crouching Tiger is to preserve the culture of the characters and the story. It adds authenticity and a certain richness to the film.

Or- would you justify DUBBING Dances with Wolves??? The very nature of using authentic Lakota Sioux dialogue shows a man (costner) culturally isolated from his society and forces him to learn the language and customs of foreign people. It allowed a sense of tolerance and societal perspective.

So there are THOUSANDS of reasons of maintaining the original language and not butchering the films with a horrid dub.

I challenge all of you Pro-Dubbing people to speak out and justify the dubbing of Dances With Wolves- or any film mentioned or not.

Remember- everyone seems to have been discussing just dubbing Foreign films- but this principle of dubbing is all encompassing to American films as well.
