I don't think the Aviator was ever released with a lossless audiotrack. At least none of my cursory research shows anything but the DD 5.1 tracks; no PCM, no TrueHD, no DTS of any type. But lossy vs. lossless shouldn't affect the volume THAT much (otherwise, how did we stand DVDs?)
Given a choice I would take a lossless soundtrack, but in a pinch even lossy tracks should be listenable.
But the video quality is supposed to be really good, so it's probably a bad disc.
