The BONUS episode Friends problem

No, it's not the HOUR-long Friends problem, this time we have the BONUS episode problem! http://www.avsforum.com/ubb/smile.gif

Seriously...this is a warning to any Friends-fans.

Your 8-8:30pm Show-based Guaranteed record will NOT NOT NOT record the special 8:30pm episode of Friends (which IS a new episode).

Why?

Because Replay thinks it met all requirements of the channel by getting the one at 8pm and will therefore "stop looking" for additional episodes.

Even if you have it set to "keep 2 episodes", that does NOT matter.

You COULD set an hour-long Theme channel but that is not the highest level of guaranteedness on Replay.

I'd recommend leaving your 8pm Show-based channel and getting a single-recording for the 8:30 episode.

'Course w/ 3.0 you'll be able to "pad" 30 minutes http://www.avsforum.com/ubb/wink.gif or make a manual recording.

P.S. It's for this sole reason Friends is now set up on my TiVo where it'll stay all year - Friends is a "can't miss" for me. Sorry Replay http://www.avsforum.com/ubb/frown.gif

P.P.S. If new users are concerned about the HOUR long problem, search the boards here for "The hour long Friends problem" topic w/ my Username.

This is exactly why we need a channel that will record ALL episodes within a specified timeframe (such as prime-time). Replay said that v3 will allow us to exclude certain days from theme-based channels, but that's all but useless in my opinion. Now if they had allowed us to exclude TIMES, that would have been great. Then I could have set up a theme-based channel based on the show title "Friends," and set it up to record from 8:00p - 11:00p (well, 10:30). This way I'd have gotten all the shows from this season without all the annoying repeats. It's true that a show-based guaranteed channel would still take precidence, but it would still be better than what we have now. Of course, the optimal solution would be to be able to specify "once-a-day" or "all occurances within a given timeframe" when setting up show-based channels.

Useless for the specific problem discussed here maybe, but certainly not useless in general. On the contrary, it will come in very handy indeed, especially with channels containing lots of repeated programming during the week, like HBO, Showtime, etc.
Note:

NBC is also showing a special Will & Grace NEXT Thursday that will suffer from this same problem.

Replay guys: is your network partner TRYING to make things hard for us? http://www.avsforum.com/ubb/wink.gif Jeez!

Now...in other news, my TiVo for some inexplicable reason didn't have NEXT Thursday's Friends scheduled...so they're not perfect either, I guess. But, their advantage was that a) I have a ToDo List and b) I have data all the way PAST NEXT Thursday.

The reason for the doubled episodes on Thursdays is because NBC is just so confident in the Steven Weber vehicle Cursed that they keep pushing it back. It was supposed to debut this week with everything else. At least it isn't DAG, which is now debuting in mid-November.

And FTR, cwoody's SP problem is one of those bizarre, freak occurences that only he seems to attract like a magnet from both sides. http://www.avsforum.com/ubb/wink.gif

Um, Chris, we never said you could exclude specific days from Theme channels.
My bad, Mike. I was thinking about a show-based channel and failed to catch the word "theme" in there. So, I sure can't wait to be able to block out the same time/different days repeats of "Sex and the City" on HBO http://www.avsforum.com/ubb/wink.gif .

Actually my SP problem was exactly what I thought - but very rare indeed and would have fixed itself on the next daily call. I wrote about it - and had responses from people over on the TiVo board. I think the title was "why did TiVo skip an episode" or something like that.
My Tivo got both episodes without any problems using my Season Pass.
Okay, we don't need your "Tivo does it better" posts. This is a Replay board. Bye bye now.
