IGN gave it an 8.5, Kikizo gave it a 9.1, and Gamespot gave it a 9.3! With this game being based off a movie franchise, those are some incredible scores! Is there anyone playing this who can provide some more feedback on it?

I will be picking it up today when time permits I hope. Will post something after seeing it running on my Z1.

Enclave was a very good game (If too hard at times) so I have high hopes for this one.

it has three difficulty settings as well as side missions you can accept. there's some replay value here. 7-10hours to get thru the first time give or take, play it thru a second time.... should eat up a good 20hour total chunk.

good enough for me if the game is beautiful and well executed, which, this game seems to be.

going at lunch time to pick it up.

supports 480p as well and 16:9

Reports vary from 10-12 for most with one I saw last week saying 7-10 hours.

At 10-12 (reported as a play through, not getting 100%) that makes it longer than Zelda: WW, Metroid Prime, Metal Gear Solid:TTS and Viewtiful Joe, all games you have heartily recommended as "must buys". Suggesting someone rent this instead of purchase... I am puzzled dschroll.

Ok so work can wait.

Maybe the Onimusha intro posted here spoiled me but the CG intro looks bad. Not even just not great, but bad.

Immediately after is a scene that sets us up for the actual gameplay using the in game engine. The Marshall bringing you to Butcher Bay, as well as the other two convicts do not look anywhere near as well modeled as the Riddick char, but they are passable.

Once game play starts you have the choice of what tone you want to strike with the Marshall. (RPG lite elements mentioned I assume) though it really does not matter you only have one option with the Marshall... (and its not to make friends!)

The view is pretty unusual. I never played Breakdown but I am thinking this is similar from descriptions. Seems the standard view is higher than most FPS, and the stealth view (Click in left stick for quieter moving) lowers you to a more familiar viewpoint.

The flailing about when punched in the head, as well as when punching is well done, Much better than just your hands/gun moving in most games. (Again I am pretty sure this was done in Breakdown first).

Oops forgot to mention language.. if you were offended by Manhunt, this may annoy you as well. Riddick seems to have worse language than he did in Pitch Black.

What stuck out the most was Riddick's shadow. So far you can always see it and its very realistic (IMO) for agame. Often its right infront of him however and looks really dark.

As well as Riddick's shadow is done however.. the shadows for objects (many small light sources casting shadows off of boxes and objects) look poor. They appear to be dramatic color changes in the textures and do not seem to have any real illusion of being "real" shadows".

Surfaces also seem to suffer from Need For Speed shininess. Its amazing that you can walk up to any surface and not see ANY blockiness.. but I am wondering who polishes all the surfaces in this prison. Heck the dirt and grime SHINES in this game (So far).

Gameplay is pretty cool so far. the HTH combat is not deep but it works, I was able to throw several punches. In fact I was able to beat someone to death without even getting hit myself (hope the AI gets better for hand to hand combat).

The switch from FP to third person is very fast and smooth, it looks like it makes perfect sense to do this when climbing up and down ladders and makes me wonder why nobody though of this sooner.

I am also somewhat puzzled by the fact that I need to drag a body into the shadows so no guards that pass by are alerted, but its ok to leave the gun the guard was using in the middle of the hallway... (You cannot at this point pickup weapons without being shocked)

Please, let's not start this again. I'm sure every person here has read time and again of your alleged completion times of games(especially Metroid Prime). My recommendations of games are generally "must play." While I'm not denying that I recommended people purchase a game, I doubt I went out of my way to insist that someone buy it over renting it. I generally just insist that people play it or try it if there are any doubts over a game.

Chronicles of Riddick is a $50 game. I have merely read some reviews on the game that said that it was relatively short and can be completed in 10 hours or less. With game rentals now lasting several days for a few dollars, I merely recommended that renting the game may be an alternative to buying it. I'm not really insisting on someone buying it or renting it, just making a suggestion based on what I've read. I try and post suggestions on forums to try and help people at times, be it game recommendations, home theater advice, or money saving tips. I think you're looking to deep into this.

Just got home with it now and cannot wait to try it once I get some more work done.
Seems like you should be spending more time working and less time trying to pick fights on message boards.

Seriously I am puzzled why you would mention the length of a game as being a reason to rent considering your previous "help" for many well rated games never included this suggestion thats all. Too deep? Maybe. Call me curious /shrug. No offense intended.

Oh and MP can be finished in 1.5 hours with 100% if you do not believe me, watch the video :)

(For the record the only game I have mentioned/posted my personal time for finishing in your list is MP and you are off by 3 hours AGAIN).

Likewise. I own my company so I am afforded a level of flexibility (After all when you are a business owner you are ALWAYS working) with my message board times.

Ok curious/shrug. I have suggested that others rent games in the past as well. I believe I even recommended Twin Snakes as a rental to some(especially to those that have played the original). Again, it was more of a recommendation to play the game than to buy it.

Again, you're just looking too deep into this bud. I'm sure my "rent it" suggestion may have worked into your conspiracy theory on me trying to thwart MS' attempt to make a place for themselves in the console market by going on message boards and suggesting people not buy XBOX games and merely rent them......but that's not something I really would want to do......or would I??? ;)

Oh, I know it can.....by professional speedgamers who put in 100+ hours into the game in order to memorize all the clues and maps. I don't, however, believe that Frank Cones managed to get through Metroid Prime his first time through(on Normal) in 7 hours(or 10 for that matter, although you HAVE said 7 in the past) without using any type of strategy guide.

Just out of curiosity . . . of the games you mentioned above . . .

Zelda Wind Waker

Viewtiful Joe

MGS: Twin Snakes

Metroid Prime

How long did it take for you to complete each of these?

Just wondering,

Zelda Wind Waker: Hmm I'd say about 15 with my son playing with me. I would place $$ on we could have finished it sooner as he liked to spend time in the game since he found the graphics so good. (Commented more than once on how much better thay were than shows on the cartoon network)

Viewtiful Joe: 7, maybe 8. Had to have my son help me with several sports though as my age is catching up with me!

MGS: Twin Snakes Finished the PS1 version in well under 10 hours. I have read there are new/longer cut scenes, but have also read its an approx 10 hour ride in reviews still.

Metroid Prime: Despite whats been brought up time and time again, I did not finish MP in 7 hours, it took me 10. Was it 100%, nope. But it also was not rushing by any means.

You can look up reviews for these games in many places and find that finishing them takes approx 10 hours. Same as Halo for that matter. Heck same as most games this generation. Yet another reason I would find it odd for someone (anyone) to say a 10-12 hour game might be a rental due to its being short.. that logic would place most games as rentals. (

Now that would not be good for the industry or people who work in companies making parts for the consoles would it. I say buy every good game whether its 7 hours or 20. There are peoples livelyhoods depending on it.

So back to the game:

Hmm more stealth than shooter, very cool. Sadly the guards are not showing any real talent using their weapons. If I am seen trying to sneak up, the guard yells at me instead of shooting at me (Often yelling "there's Riddick kill him") allowing me to punch him a few times and force him to shoot himslef.

The special cigarette packs are very neat. They unlock (so far) movies and still shots of the Pitch Black SE DVD and new movie. I have #1, #2 and then um #6. Guess I need to go back and check some tunnels I missed.

I am not Dschroll, but I will go along with that.

If it is NOT on the GameCube and NOT a Mario game . . . It is only worth renting!!

*cough* I put the highlights from my first hour and a half of gameplay up *cough*

Going beyond that:

The AI is VERY troubling. I know I mentioned it before but I keep expecting it to get better.... it has in that I am at more "stealthy" sections where if I am seen from a very great distance the guards now spray the area with machine gun fire, but there is still the issue of then standing and looking at me if I get close and then get spotted. I've never been a prison guard but question the login of engaging in hand to hand combat with a fellow twice my size when I have an automatic weapon in my hands. I guess its the training program as they ALL choose HTH over the machijne gun defense...

well, i for one am digging the game.

have to get used to the controls, so, i think i'm going to start over the intro level.

i was a bit taken back at the language... just wasn't expecting it (never played manhunt). not gonna be a game i can play with in an earshot of my kids, but, hey, it's better playing in the dark anyways.

is it just me, or, are these cig.packs found out of order?? the first pack i picked up was #37 and that was about 5min into the game.

pat.
