I know the "S" used differnt tubes but every other spec I read are indentical-.'

CRT specs list 1200 lumens for both tha 701 and 701s. Is this correct? How do the same sony tubes that are used in everythign else rated at 700-800 lumans put out 1200 lumen?

I also noticed that the 701 is listed as being the more expensive, both new and used.

The main reason I'm lookint at the barco is for brightness... Is it just the 701S that has the bright tubes or is the 701 brighter than most projectors in its class?

The 701 uses Sony tubes. About 600 - 700 lumens. The 701s and 708 (a newer version of the 701s) use Toshiba tubes. About 1000 lumens. I don't know what price list your looking at? The one at w w w . c r t cinema.com? I think that is old and obsolete pricing. I would pay more for a 701s or 708 than I would for a 701. There are are so Vision and Data versions. At least for the 701. The Vision has a bandwidth of 36kHz. The Data has 50kHz? A higher bandwidth let's you display higher resolution pictures. Like 720p. Again, I would pay more for a Data than a Vision. There are other PJs that display 1000+ lumens. However the higher the lumens, the faster the tube usually wear. OH! The Cine 7 is the latest verison of the 70X series. It has Toshiba tubes also. You can buy it new for $$$$$.

PAW, bandwidth and scanrate are completely different things.

You mean scanrate in this case. Scanrate is the max res+refresh combo that it will lock on to and display.

Bandwidth is spec in Mhz, and the bigger the better = sharper. It is the frequency response of the pj - where it begins to blur and round off sharp edges.

They are both important, but different. Most pj's have enough scanrate, but you can NEVER have enough bandwidth.

Thanks for straighten me out Mark. :D I've learned a little about bandwidth and scan rates but it's still a little fuzzy for me

Ben the non-S have component inputs. I've seen them live and in person and I've read the manuals. :D
