The Ephemeral 2005 Panny ES-10- Good. Also ES-20 Comparison..

The ES10 Has got to be the most short-lived DVDR ever made. It lasted maybe 2 months at the most and was manufactured in very small increments Before Panny realized- WHOA- this IS NOT what we want- it was a marketing complete reversal! I actually bought one of these 2005 non HDD DVDRs last year around June 2005. For 100 bucks at BB using their coupons on an open box that turned out pristine. It has been an excellent performer- it was replaced, I believe by the ES-20 quickly after, that had a DV input and an LSI chip. I still do not know what chip this ES-10 unit has - I assume it is a Panny made chip. Why Panny made these(es10) and abruptly discontinued them is a mystery other than what I just postulated.- Some say the ES10 is better than the ES20-I do not know. What is your experience?

The even greater mystery is what they were thinking with the ES20! They removed a few features, and maybe had the interns working on the FR mode and messed it up.

Then they put back in the ES15 the features they removed from the ES10-to-ES20 and added some more. And to confuse the consumers even more, the model numbers are out of sync....

If I knew at purchase time the ES20 couldn't pause FR mode but all the other models I was considering could, then I would have probably waited to find either an ES10 or a Pioneer 22x/23x.

I never used an ES10 so I can't really compare them other than compare the user manuals :)
