Looking like this will be a winner, especially if you're already a Wes Anderson fan. Slated for release October 22, 2021. 9 minute standing ovation at Cannes.

Wes Anderson is one the most innovative and creative directors out there...all his movies are excellent and quirky (with an A-list cast)...

Margot Robbie Joins Wes Anderson’s Next Film

The actress, currently on screens as Harley Quinn in The Suicide Squad, has joined the roster of the acclaimed auteur’s latest project, an untitled feature that will begin shooting in Spain later in August...

Wes morphed to Woody.

One Wes, The Grand Budapest Hotel (2014), will do.

Good to see he's making movies with live people again, not that 'Isle of Dogs' wasn't good. :)

Looking forward to watching this one. My wife and I really enjoy Wes Anderson films. Last year I got her this book which has a lot of nice artwork and such:

Unfortunately I don't think it's playing in any theaters near us. Will probably have to wait til it comes out on Blu Ray.

Went to my local cinema and saw this yesterday, and boy am I conflicted. I really enjoy Wes Anderson, and there is absolutely no doubt that this is one of his most beautiful and detailed films. It may actually be his most visually striking effort to date. There are shots in this that are just breathtakingly gorgeous and framed and lit with so much care and love. Anderson's passion here is not up for debate. It's honestly a technical marvel how he's managed to expand his visual style into frames that capture much larger areas and, in this case, cityscapes.

However, I have to admit that I found it a bit overwhelming. I can't help but feel I was not equipped to come close to gathering what I needed to in order to feed my full appreciation. Perhaps that's the goal here: Multiple viewings are absolutely necessary, but I just found myself struggling to keep up with the narrative and what was going on with this character versus that character from one frenetic minute to the next.

I also feel like character development was a bit lacking here. There definitely is development, but it is just fiercely quick, and before you get a chance to process much of anything, you are thrown into another world that you also need to absorb, and this keeps happening throughout the run-time. I just never caught my breath so it inevitably came off tedious for me.

The story here is engrossing and interesting and perfectly within Wes Anderson's wheelhouse, but I almost wonder if a limited series would have allowed this to breathe more. Well, I don't wonder. I know it would have. I needed more time with this story and these characters. At 1 hr and 48 min, I could easily see that doubled and broken into three or four parts. Still, I will eventually own this, and I know a couple more viewings will be valuable. IMDb: 7.5/10, my score: 7.5/10

Home release has been announced. I will wait for the Criterion release.

"Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment has just announced Wes Anderson’s latest film, The French Dispatch, for release on Blu-ray and DVD on 12/28, with the Digital release (including 4K) set for 12/14. Audio will be DTS-HD MA. There’s no indication of special features, but you can reasonably imagine that a Criterion special edition is forthcoming next year."

If I'm reading this correctly, no physical 4K release this year, but 4K on the streaming service? That sucks, but I imagine they're trying to drive people to Disney+. I'm not taking the double-dip bait and will wait for a 4K UHD Blu-Ray.

Yeah, hoping the Criterion will be 4K, but I will prioritize Criterion regardless. I'm as excited for the special features as I am being able watch the movie and pause/rewind certain parts just so I can see everything in some of the frames.
Finally got around to seeing this. I was underwhelmed. I wasn't prepared for the challenge of keeping up with the constant stream of rapid-fire voiceovers. I've always FELT something when I've viewed a Wes Anderson film, but this one just left me feeling cold and uninvolved. Maybe I'll grow to appreciate it more with time.
