THE GAME is coming to The Movie Channel in June - Not HD.

We can only hope that THE GAME will finally be presented in True-HD over The Movie Channel in June. I believe that this will mark the very first time that this film has ever played in HD. THE GAME airs on 6/2 @ 7:30pm and continues throughout the month. No aspect ratio news or if it will indeed be in True-HD. Fingers are crossed...

Whenever this was on Showtime, it was never HD.

Also, the region 1 DVD is 4:3 letterbox. Pretty pathetic. It'd be nice to see this one in HD.
Sho has been weird of late with their HD.

Bright Young Things was not listed as HD and I believe that the first showing was not HD but the one this morning was HD (at least it had an HDTV slate) so things seem to change all the time there.

It would be nice if this was HD.

It would be really nice if they got their online schedule for HD work also!

Cheers!

Side note: there is a fan-created DVD set floating around the 'net that uses a Japanese-sourced anamorphic NTSC DVD for the first disc, and then takes the extras from the Criterion Collection laserdisc edition as a second disc.

where might one "find" these fan-created dvds?

the nonanamorphic dvd is unwatchable on a big screen, and the 4:3 showtime-HD version isn't much better. i'd LOVE a 16:9 presentation of THE GAME....
just curious, but does anyone know what the "alternate ending" was on the Criterion Laserdisc? Usually you can find out this kind of stuff at IMDB under alternate versions but they still have no info. on it.

I'll bet this is the same 4:3 transfer that was on Showtime since their the same company.
I'm holding out hope that THE GAME will be TrueHD on The Movie Channel as it's airing during "normal" viewing hours: 6/2 @ 7:30pm, 6/6 @ 9:30am, 6/14 @ 9:15am, and on 6/24 @ 8pm. Showtime only played it during late-night-hours and not during primetime; an indication of an nonHD transfer (in my book). Hey, you never know...fingers are crossed.

Unfortunately, the site where I saw the description of the torrent isn't listing it anymore. I did a quick search, and I'm not seeing it up at this time. I did see a reference to a new Region 2 (PAL) release, supposedly coming out this month (May 2006).
I got an e-mail from NicheFlix highlighting the R2 release of "The Game." It mentioned that the audio track had been adjusted to compensate for PAL "speedup." It also said there were some supplements from the Criterion LD.

This movie looked spectacular in the theater, but I just could not buy the premise of it. It relied on the perpetrators of the game anticipating the main character's actions and reactions too precisely.
Unfortunately THE GAME is 4x3 (June 2: 7:30pm), but the PQ looks terrific. I know that it's not OAR but the transfer quality, picture and 5.1 sound is excellent. I guess that we'll have to wait for an eventual HD disc release

so we can enjoy the film in OAR.

You'll have to wait for more than that.

If it's 4:3, it's not HD.

What's your point, as the film was not originally shot in 4x3?

The Movie Channel transfer was cropped during for their HD broadcast.

They need to create a TrueHD, 16x9 transfer already. Enough is enough!

This broadcast did look very good, 4x3 and all. At least my D-VHS copy

looks far better than any of the current DVD editions.

The point? The point is very simple; it's not HDTV, it's an upconvert.

And your right, 'Enough is enough!'.
