What starts off as a promo video for a trip to an exclusive and immersive, breathtaking trip to a private island — which looks a lot like that Fyre Fest promo that duped everyone — quickly turns into a vacation from hell. Netflix has cleverly added some Fyre Fest appeal to the new promo teaser for their forthcoming sci-fi thriller The I-Land, which will debut September 12.

The limited series stars Kate Bosworth and Natalie Martinez and follows 10 people who wake up on a treacherous island with no memory of who they are or how they got there. As they try to get back home, they soon discover this world is not as it seems. Faced with the I-Land’s extreme psychological and physical challenges, they must rise to their better selves — or die as their worst ones. This seems a lot like the real-life Fyre Fest, but I’m sure their accomodations were a lot better and they got more to eat than a slice of cheese on a slice of bread.

After 20+ seasons, I figured everybody has had enough of "Survivor". Guess not.
Yeah, I am amazed at the legs that show has. I watched the first couple of seasons and that was plenty.

But I'm not really a reality show guy either. The only ones I've watched with any regularity are SYTYCD and 'Chopped'. But my wife has watched every season of 'Project Runway' and now wants to be a fashion designer. :D

I stopped watching reality TV a few years after the Survivor craze started when I watched a documentary that exposed how contrived "reality" shows are and how the producers manipulate and goad participants during filming to do and say certain things.

I also lost interest in talent shows when it became apparent how much the judges and producers were trying to manipulate viewer voting on American Idol, resulting in total nobody "where are they now" winners like Phillip Phillips, Lee DeWyze, Scott McCreary, and Kris Allen.

Regarding I-Land, watching the trailer, it looks more like a cross between Lost and Hunger Games. The acting and dialogue seems mediocre at best, so definitely not going to sign up for Netflix for this.

So the I-land is a virtual reality world? They're plugged in like the Matrix. If you die in here you die out there too. Ok. I'll give it a watch. Lol. This is a dead time for shows.

Watched the first episode. Acting was pretty weak at times. Concept is kind of cool, mystery is kind of cool and the scenery is gorgeous. I think there is enough to keep me watching. Definitely will not be binge watching this and instead will probably hit an episode here or there.

Watched the first two episodes. Between the corny dialogue and questionable acting this is a Lost clone. At least for the first two episodes. I Kept waiting for them to find a hatch and polar bear. The two leading ladies can be cringe worthy at times. As can the Sawyer wannabe. Even with all that, the underlying mystery is enough to keep me interested.

After one episode I felt the exact same way, the comparison to lost characters is hilarious at times. And Kate's character, ugh, at one point I yelled out, please kill her off already but I have a feeling she will be in it for the long haul being one of the bigger names attached to this.

For what it's worth, the big plot twist (which is basically given away in the trailer) is dropped in Episode 3.

That's as far as I got last night. The show is bad. Real bad. Like, embarrassing bad. Not sure I will continue further.

Well the 3rd episode changed the show. I finished the 7 episodes and I’m not sure how I feel about it, but I didn’t hate it.

I think the reveal should have been in the last episode, and not the 3rd episode, but I’m not sure how much difference it would have made. It was OK and mostly held my interest throughout, and the episodes were not overly long, which helped some. OTOH, It did seem like it might have benefitted from a few more episodes to flesh out the characters a bit more.

Honestly, I think they should have dropped that twist at the end of the first episode or very beginning of the second. There was no need to have two whole episodes of characters being a'holes to each other on the island before we even find out what the show's about.

It did seem like it might have benefitted from a few more episodes to flesh out the characters a bit more.
Did you really want to spend more time with these characters, though?

Yes, since we got only minimal back stories. Again, I didn't love this but it wasn't the worst series either. It could have been better IMO with more character development.
Fair enough. The characters are all just so unlikable, though (and most of the actors so bad), that I'm not sure giving them more screen time would really help anything.
