They should just stick with their actual voice actors. They could make it work.

Ashley Johnson is 30, and while she could certainly play younger than that, I don't think she could pass for 14. I think Ellie ought to be played by an actual teenager.

(And certainly there have been teenagers who've given great performances on screen; Hailee Steinfeld was 13 when she did TRUE GRIT.)

It's official:

Sony subsidiary Screen Gems will be releasing a film adaptation of PlayStation 3 game The Last of Us, Deadline reports. Game creative director Neil Druckmann will reportedly be writing the script, with participation from other members of studio Naughty Dog. Sam Raimi's Ghost House Pictures production company, which worked on the 2013 remake of Evil Dead, will collaborate with them to make the film. "When I saw the quality of the storytelling, I knew the audience for this project was far greater than just the gaming community and that Neil Druckmann must write the screenplay," said Screen Gems president Clint Culpepper. The move was rumored last year, when Sony filed trademarks related to the film.

They better not screw this up, or they will have a bunch of pissed off people.

Of course they will screw it up. I guess I would say, based on past history of movies based on video games, most of them do not fare very well.

Besides I already watched a movie of The Last of Us. I never played the game but I watched a video of the play through. I think it was something like six hours long or more. I had never done that before with any video game but I found it very interesting.

You watched a playthrough instead of playing the game!? You ruined the experience if you did that.

I didn't have a PS3 any more. I had traded it in since I had no use for it anymore. So there was no way I was ever going to be playing it as long as it was on a PS3. If I had actually played the game, I doubt I would have ever finished it anyway. At least based on the play through that I saw. That's not typically the type of game that I would finish.

A typical playthrough takes 12 hours or more, if what you watched only took 6 hours then not only did you miss out on the best gaming experience of the generation, you also skipped half the story.

I don't remember exactly how long it was. Just that it was very long and had several different videos that I watched over an entire weekend. It could have been 12 hours for all I know. I actually enjoyed watching it that weekend. So it could have easily been longer than I remember because I tend to lose track of time when I watch something that I really get into.

EIther way, if I had actually played the game I doubt I would have made it past 20%. I would have gotten frustrated with it and just stopped playing it after a while. At least that has been my experience in the past with some games like that.

I have no idea if it had Co-Op, but that is when I would be more likely to finish a long game. When I can also play with other people to help me advance along the story line and also make it more enjoyable. But by myself I usually get too frustrated.

Either way, you missed out on something truly amazing and you will never be able to experience it as intended as a result. There is no other way to describe it, watching someone else play the game just doesn't have that same impact that playing it for yourself does.

Perhaps Paul W.S. Anderson can direct. And Mila Jovovich can play Ellie; the story can be about this bad ass super power girl immune to the infection, lets call her Alice for kicks, and she will rampage across America bringing mighty slo-mo justice to the evil Umbrella Fireflies!

BOOM; Sony can pay me now!

This will be interesting. Biggest appeal in this game is playing it and experiencing the bond that grows between Joel and Ellie and understanding (even relating) to his decision in the finale.
