What an upgrade over the standard DVD. I think all those waiting for this will be quite suprised just how good it looks. It looks like a totally different film compared to the standard DVD. I will post more thoughts if I get time later on.

Is the transfer on the first film still altered to look like the sequels? Or did they go back to the look of the original SD-DVD?

I just want to know in the first movie, is the sound as rich and enveloping as it was in the theater? I remember the DVD's with the DD5.1 tracks sounding thin, compared to the DTS mix I heard in the theaters.

Plus how does the Animatrix look?

I know what your saying Art I saw Revolutions last night ans it was great but the blocking in the rain fight, and Zion were very disapointing.

Art

Hi Art, the HBO vesion of the Matrix I had as a ts this was not much better than the standard DVD. Going by titles I own already and how the reviewers have rated these then I would imagine they will get 5 for both audio and video.

There is some grain in the image . . but film has grain

I was more impressed with this set than Planet Earth.

Hi Adam_ME, I'm not too sure. The first films looks mighty fine and I did not notice the look had changed over the original SD-DVD.

The fine detail in some of the scenes is quite stunning. The lobby shootout scene for example

Hi Linux23, I remember seeing the Matrix in a newly built cinema in the UK. The sound quality from memory was quite stunning. The only thing was that was a long time ago and since then home systems have improved a lot. I think you will like the True HD track.

Hi hd nOOb,

I have a coupon to download the Animatrix via the Xbox 360 Marketplace. It does not mention if it's in HD.

Don't worry about the rain scene. I just played it and was most impressed.

Hi Evangelo2,

I will see if my friend who owns a xbox 360 can input the code and get some more info on this title.

Hi petmic10,

The True HD sounds on par with titles like Superman Returns, Batman Begins etc.

I'm sure some parts will sound different in dpeth but overall I think Warner are doing a fantastic job with their movies.

I'll just update here.

I've now had a quite look at all three films and they all look and sound top notch. I was not actually going to order these as I've read a lot about the two follow ups being poor. . . I'm glad I did. From the opening credits I could tell it was going to be something special over the SD version. To me that is what HD is about . . a substantial upgrade over the SD verison.

My video system is a ISF calibrated Barco 1209. 81 inch wide 2.3.5 Studiotek 1.3 screen. I'm sure those with digitals will have different opinions but I doubt one that is negative on these transfers (maybe some slight edge enhancement).

Enjoy.

acave_uk, thanks for the information. Could you explain what you mean about downloading the Animatrix from the Xbox marketplace via a coupon? Which version do you have, Ultimate or Complete edition? The Animatrix is on the Ultimate edition and I am not aware of any coupon being given away with the Complete set. Or of The Animatrix being available on the Xbox marketplace. Thanks.

He's right - the Trilogy (non-Ultimate) set comes with a coupon code that allows the user to download The Animatrix from Xbox Live; mne's sat in front of me as I type. It says US users only though.

Thanks for confirming that, sounds like an unexpected bonus.
