I have not seen any information on the new ed sealed subs that are coming down the pipe. Here is the link http://forum.edesignaudio.com/showth...ent-71538.html

A5s-350

Sealed 15" w/ 500w. 20Hz.

$700 Shipped Range.

A5s-300

Sealed 12" w/ 500w. 19Hz.

$600 Shipped Range.

A3s-250

Sealed 10" w/ 300w. 22Hz.

$TBA

A5s-325

Sealed 13" w/ 500w. 18Hz.

$TBA

A7s-650

Dual 13" w/ 1300w. 18Hz.

$2,000 Range.

I wondering how much the A3s-250 is going cost. From what I have read these subs don't have the spl that their ported brothers have(above 20hz), but they have more spl down below 20hz because of amplifier modifications (i.e. no 12hz cut off filter).

That could be possible, for example, if the 12" were put in a box that's the same size as the 15". It would naturally begin it's 12db/octave rolloff at a lower frequency than the 15" in the same size box, assuming no correction with eq.

I think those numbers are after some EQing. All of the subs have a response similar to the A7s 450. The smaller ones obviously won't dig as deep or loud.

Hey guys. Hopefully I can shed some light here.

The curves presented albiet with no smoothing do a have a eQ.2 applied are done via ground plane.

2 band parametric EQ. No boost applied on the input signal to avoid anything from being clipped.

This could easily be achieved by using the eQ.2 (or other room correction) and or just by using the supplied EQ's in a lot of stuff nowadays.

Low frequency extension a lot of the time is a product of Q, mass, and compliance. The 12" driver has a little more compliant suspension, a lower Q in that box, and almost as much mass. All in all it's tough to make a better sealed 12" driver than the speaker that is in that model. It's not that the 15" driver is bad by any stretch of the imagination. It's that the 12" driver is just that good in a small box.

We haven't fully finishing the development on a hybrid nio3 motor for a 15" driver yet. The 12" cabinets are already benefiting from that engineering.

Output wise I agree 100%. The larger cone diameter with a sealed box the more output. Sure there is a bore stroke arguement but with these designs they all have 2"+ p2p available and on some more.

In terms of LFE extension down into the 10~15Hz range while we're looking at the F10's not the F3's you'll still have usable output there. Whether that's actually necessary there or not is up to you to use
The electronics across each model are significantly modified to yield more power down low.

These are really for the guys who just don't want the big subs. They still do everything quite well just not with the same overall output as some of the vented monsters obviously.

Just out of curiousity, would i see a noticeable improvement in both SQ and Output moving from an A2-300 to an a5s-300?

I'm assuming its a different (better) driver, as well as the additional amplification so in theory it should produce more output despite being a sealed sub?

Edit: Also wanted to ask, would the EQ from the Audyssey MultiEQ in my receiver be sufficient for a sealed sub, or would i be better of purchasing a seperate eq.2?

The drivers for most of the new sealed subs are different. I believe the e.5 line of drivers will be used. The Audyssey MultiEQ will not be enough for the subwoofer. I do not think that the MultiEQ even handles any of the lower friquencies (correct me if I am wrong). The eq.2 would work or the sms system from velodyne would also work.

I am personally looking forward to see the new 10 inch design. If the price is right I might even be able to afford to buy the eq.2 along with it.

You will certainly notice an increase in sound quality, as for output, thats really depends on your room, and subwoofer placement.

The A5S-300 uses a considerably higher end driver, and more amplification power, but comes in a sealed enclosure which is considerably smaller.

Its a toss up on output. As for MutliEQ, I'm unfortunately not familiar with how low in the frequency range it will adjust. You can always purchase an eQ.2 later on down the road, I will be sure to extend the discount if purchased later.

So in a 4500 cub ft room, with tile floors. What sub under the $850 range would you recomend to shake the house? A7S-450 or A5-350?

Im curious what your answer to his question is , which of those is best for music or do you have another recommendation?

ED's sealed subs are generally better for music and HT. The ported units are more tuned for HT and volume.

I have an a7s-450 and LOVE it for music and HT (30% music, the rest HT).

Oops, forgot that little nugget of info. 99% games and HT. Heres some old pics of the room. I've added full length traps in the corners, put the B&Ws in the closet('cause nobody wants to buy them) replaced them with RC-70s and added traps leght wise behind the tv. Nevermind the Xmas lights to, they are old pics....lol. Space really isnt a factor although I cant put anyhting big on that main wall because of the traps. But I can put it on the left side of the love seat along the wall.

I am looking at buying two A5S-300 units. I am wondering if thats going to be enough in my room which is 22x13x9ft. My use is 70% HT & 30% music. I am looking for something that has usable/decent output to atleast 20Hz. The subs are going to be placed just inside of each front speaker. Another placement I am contemplating is to place both subs in the back behind second row of seating with driver facing the back of the seats. Any feedback is appreciated.
