The New World-No HD-DVD release on May 9?

I can't believe that New Line is not making this movie available on DVD and HD-DVD on May 9. I did not see it in the theater, but, from what I read I thought it would be the perfect movie for HD-DVD.

New Line hasn't started releasing catalog titles yet, let alone day & date new releases. Give it some time.

I feel the exact same way.

I would have thought this would have been a perfect opportunity for NL to make a splash. Can't imagine what they are waiting for. I also haven't seen it yet, but am anxious to. Reviews I've read have mentioned ringing and EE in some spots on the dvd- quite noticeable. I wonder if this will be a problem when it does finally make it to HD DVD?

A Shame Warner doesn't have Badlands on the slate for this year too.

Maybe we can look forward to it next year, along with Road Warrior and LA Confidential and Deliverance and...

honestly, this stuff can't come fast enough now.

Don't forget Days of Heaven. I remember hearing years ago that it was shot in 70mm.
I too would happily purchase A New World on HD DVD this week if such a release existed. Hopefully we'll hear some good release news from New Line soon.

Days of Heaven was shot in 35mm. Very few movies over the past 30 years have been shot in 65mm.
there is a strong rumour that an extended Directors Cut of this will be released in Nov. and it will be HDDVD exclusive.
Ah, to buy it tomorrow or wait for an HD release. Decisions, decisions. I think I'll try to wait it out for HD. I wonder if New Line isn't holding back titles because they're working on new HD exclusive extras. They were one of the first ones pushing the envelope with extras when standard dvd was in it's infancy after all.

Great!

Worth waiting for.

I've read that the extended version only adds "scenery".

OK by me, cause it's fantastic scenery.

Well, I've gone though half of this forum threads and what a treat!

NO BLURAY OR DIE POSTS!!!

Truly, enjoyable.

actually, Sara Green the producer said recently that the Extended Edition will be on HD in Nov, but I don't think she said anything about exclusivity (it's just that she never mentioned it being on DVD). Hope that clarifies.

I just watched the film for the first time last night courtesy of Netflix, and I'm greatly looking forward to the HD version. PQ was ok- about 80% of the time excellant, but the other 20% was a bit disappointing, with ringing and less defined detail than I was expecting to see. HD for this film is a must.
This movie will be stunning on HD. I saw this in the theater and loved it. Although not for everyone, I think Malicks style and composition will tranlate beautifuly to HD.
