Tech Notes:

- Native HD format is 720p.

- ABC is using the ESPN HD production team / equipment for the broadcasts.

- HD video and graphics is framed for the 4:3 analog broadcast.

- Audio is DD 2.0 with Circle Surround. Use any analog surround processing; Pro Logic, Pro Logic II, Circle Surround, CSII, Logic 7, etc.

Pre-game is up and running looks great. Watching OTA via WPVI-DT Philadelphia. Watching in the native 720 p format no conversion from other formats.

Sorry, I have a bit of a man-crush on Michaels' voice. It is the perfect announcer's voice, IMHO.

I don't remember seeing this before on ABC, but watching in Minneapolis I am receiving 2.0, but the 5.1 flag is lit, so I can't use PLII or any other processing system.

Try switching your receiver over to PCM and then give it a try.

Thanks. I am actually watching the Sopranos in 5.1 and recording the game (dual tuner HD TiVo.) I will start the game after and if I catch up to the game live, I will try that. I can't watch Sopranos in 5.1 if I set to PCM. Thanks for the tip.

I can't stand these announcers myself. Al Michaels, like him for football, b ut something about him I just don't like when he announces basketball. just really don't like him. Doc Rivers might know a lot, but can't stand his voice.


Give me TNT/normal espn announcers anyday. Hell, give me Bill Walton before this.

No problem I am watching the Sopranos also right now will go back to the game at 10.

Its only a couple minutes into the game so far, but it really does seem pretty soft so far (on all non-closeups). NHL Finals have looked alot better, IMO.

Just curious though, why isn't ABC providing DD 5.1 for the NBA Finals??? If memory serves me right, they broadcast the NHL Playoffs in 5.1 a couple of weeks ago...what gives?

HD from the local affiliate (WFAA) over my cableco. Dallas is the ABC local that shoots out 1080i so it's upconverted for us. Looks ok, exceptions being the same comments that others have had. My 5.1 light is also lit up.

ESPN is producing the NBA & NHL for ABC. ESPN does not use DD 5.1 at this time.
