A lot of HD cameras.


All networks seem to be ready with unique HD graphics.

Cleveland is in HD on ABC & NBC, both OTA and Adelphia cable. CBS (WOIO) is not in HD yet, but we have been having problems with them turning HD on of late.

On my Panasonic DT-M3050w 16:9 30" CRT @ 720p.


As far as I can tell it looks exactly the same on ABC, CBS and NBC.

It is indeed HD on all 3 networks. (at least here in NY OTA)


Fox digital looks very bad in comparison

An interesting experience for me. My first chance to compare 1080, 720, and EDTV on the same picture.


In the NY area, CBS seemed to have the best picture (my set is native 1080i), ABC second, and FOX a clear third in quality. I can't pick up NBC here.


For some reason, CBS audio is way louder than the other two.

Here in Tampa

CBS, ABC, NBC are all HD also and fox is also ED.

Plus when they switch over to the news desk they have fill in rather than black bars on each side.


Seems like not all the camera's are in HD. But the ones that are look good.

CBS (KBTX, Bryan) is live, NBC dropped the ball (showed the in HDTV logo thing but no HD, KPRC from houston)

We have so far out of Memphis CBS in HD, NBC in HD but poor reception and very pixelated.


So far ABC is SD, and we dont have a Fox ATSC channel online as of yet.

An excellent way to compare HD to ED. On their own, the ED closeups look very good. When compared to HD closeups, it's no contest. An HD landslide, to keep in the spirit of the evening.

How did you do it?


Here in Tampa WSTP the CBS bug is running off the screen, much further over than normal CBS programming. My TV does have alot of overscan but this is normally not a problem.


FYI I am watching it on CBS.

Hi All,


What makes this interesting tonight is the pool feeds. ABC is doing the main speech in 720P.


The CBS decoders at each station is converting it to 1080i - So the pictures all look the same.


The Dem's response is a CBS pool feed - put we are running it through the ABC 720 truck.

Are all of the cameras HD? Some of the images look a little soft to me. (Clearly not, after seeing the notes posted while I was first composing this)


Flip over to Fox, and everything's a little soft


Looks like the President has some 5 o'clock shadow

The visual is really impressive. I've rested on the CBS feed because it seems to be the sharpest looking of the three here in Baltimore. The sound was horrible until the chamber mics were lit up. The over commentary is rough.



Wow, I can't get over the visual. The gallery shots are unbelieveable.

Bob - my deepest thanks to you and the other networks for getting this broadcast in HD.


It is a completely different experience watching the state of the union speech in HD. I feel like I'm in the room!
