What the heck, someone had to start it.

Anyhow - to John at WHRO. No signal drop even though the picture breaks up almost consistently every 10 minutes or so.

Bill at WVEC. I have a Dish 6000 and have the exact same problem you have with WTKR. The only channel I can get is their high def one (thank God.)

And finally, don't know what happened with WTKR but on Tuesday night I had nearly a 100% signal and absolutely no dropouts. What a difference a day makes.

Bill,

WTKR-DT radar is on 3-2, we do not transmit a 3-3 stream, try 40-2 and see if it will map over.

WPXV is on the air at 46 (49-1) They were still working on some encoder issues when I left from there at 1:30.

WTVZ is on the air at 38 (33-1). The transmitter is a one tube deal, so whatever signal you are getting now, is what it will be for awhile.

As far as WTKR drop outs, I am playing around with encoder setup. I am also having problems with program guide working (it was working and then stopped). Looking for software update.

Ted,

Sorry about that! I had a brain cramp when I typed it. I meant to say 3-2.

I'll try remapping it at 40-2 tonight when I get home.

Thanks

I rescanned, and now pick up 49-1 WPXV-DT in addition to the WB that was added yesterday. I have to move my antenna around a Little bit to get in though. I guess that makes 8 digital channels. Sounds like we are doing better in Hampton Roads than they are in some of the bigger cities! I'm a happy man!:p

Well, as I feared we started a new thread and the questions I asked about format back on the April thread haven't been answered by WAVY. Looking forward to trying tonights viewing with a new station, WPXV-DT.

When I turned things on tonight some things were good and some not so good. I get all the local DT stations at 88-94 per cent signal strength. This is very good and I have no pic drop outs except that WTKR is solid signal but no pic or sound, black screen. Anybody else seeing it? I do have sound problems with several stations. Tonight and last night WHRO seemed to have very few drop outs, almost like they fixed their PBS receiver problem. What I do have with WHRO is that the sound will drop out with no picture problem and signal strength solid. In order to get it back I have to go to another channel and then come back and the sound is their. Is this my problem? Don't have this with the other stations. WPXV, nice to see you on air. I receive your sound which seems to be in mono, not Digital Dolby 5.1. All the sound is from the center speaker. For WTVZ, their sound is also mono and all in the left channel. If these two stations are in mono I think all in the center channel would be prefered over any other channel but I would miss 5.1 for movies they show.

Sorry but I have not been reading all of the posts over the past couple of months, but....

I live in Kempsville, and can pick up most stations great with my attic mounted ant. including FOX. The only station I am having problems with is WAVY. I get signal strengths ~65-70 and dorp outs all of the time and can not watch it. I thought that it was my installation, but since I get all other stations more or less fine including FOX which I think is on the same tower I thought the problem might be with WAVY.

Is anyone else having problems with WAVY? Do we know what is causing them and what can be done (station problem or my problem).

Thanks and sorry if this is already mentioned.

Here is another signal report from the NC Outer Banks. These readings were recorded between 8:10PM and 8:20PM on May 1,2002. There are two numbers for each station... each one representing the lowest and highest signal strength reading during a 60 second period.

I hope somebody finds this useful.

Gary, for WTKR last night did you have a picture and sound with them? I was getting a strong signal from them but no pic and sound. Were you getting them remapped to 3-1 or on 40-2? I'm thinking that something must have changed with their guide info and I'll have to rescan for them. If I have the same problem tonight I'll try a rescan.

Last week, MR. DVDHDTV forum buddy helped me switch antennas from the CM 3023 Yagi to the CM 3021 four bowtie on the 20ft mast on the roof. Almost all stations were great with no dropouts, but still problems with WTKR and WHRO. During the high winds on Sunday and Monday, I had to use my old RS 120 that's only 6 ft above the roof to keep from having dropouts on all stations. Lower to the ground, less affect from the wind I'm guessing.

Last night after remapping for the additional stations, I found the signal strength of WTKR and WHRO from the normal 100% range with my normal multipath drop every 10-15 mins, to running in the 70% to 60% range. All the other stations I was getting 100% on the DST-3000.

Ted & John: Was the signal affected by the other stations up and running??? I also found 33-1 and 49-1 off this morning and found WTKR-DT on.

Also, it was great to met David at Best Buy and his manager, and to see local DTV at the no. 1 electronic retailer in the nation.

Hi Earl. I am pretty sure I had picture and sound on 3-1 last night. I was trying to watch NBC though and just went to the other channels to check my setup. I am not sure why my system does not like WAVY :)

I had signals and content on all of the following last night:

WTKR-DT 3-1 & 3-2

WAVY-DT 10-1, 10-2, & 10-3

WVEC-DT 13-1 & 13-2

WHRO-DT 80-3 ( not remapping to 16 now, though it shows as 16)

WTVZ-SD 33-1 & 38-1 ??

WVBT-DT 43-1

WPVX-DT 49-1

Update this morning:

I too am still getting some dropouts on all the 10DT's ( i realigned the Terk and placed it about 20 degrees upward, it helped with the 10DT's (solid 100)but 43-1 fell off, 80-3 still 100 (and still some breakups) As others are not transmitting, ( it is too early in the day), I cannot say what this adjustment has had on them and I will be at work until late tnt.

What or is there any official "sign on" times for the previously mentioned??

6:00 p.m. would be nice from a demonstrational point.

OK..AVS's Need your help.

For some reason we can not be seen on RCA DTC-100 STB.

Here at the station, we can be seen on Samsung, Panasonic, Toshiba, but can not been seen on RCA?????

I have no explanation for this! Anybody who has a RCA DTC-100 STB let me know if you can see us, if you have an other type and can't not see us, let me know.

It was okay around 8pm Tuesday night, but nothing since.

Thanks

I have been working nights all this week, so I can't tell you anything about night time activity. However, if WTKR is currently transmitting, I'm not getting it. If you are not going to be on the air until 6 pm tonight, I can check again right before I go to work and let you know if I am receiving it. I probably have the biggest odd ball HDTV tuner there is. It's a Sensory Science HDT100 HDTV Tuner. It has it's quirks but it had been working fine.

garydean- you tracked WHRO-DT on May first at 1/4 power, just FYI.

For everyone, after last nights work, WHRO-DT is now able to run at full power with WHRO-15 also at full power. We have completed our proofing (best SNR on our system was 38 dB, FCC spec is 27 so we were pretty happy) and are now testing at 940 kW (full power).

Now we will move on to fixing the downlink. Ted had an interesting theory- the reason some receivers may have more trouble with our drop-outs is that since right now we are running a "pass through" bit stream, when we lose it at the dish, your receiver loses everything, all packets, no just some as in a glitch from a digital hiccup on a station with a local encoder. When we begin local origination (90 days or so), that is likely to be not be a problem anymore. We still plan to get a bigger dish on-line as soon as we can swing it. jh

Maybe we could take up a collection of all the round DirectV dishes being discarded for the Oval dishs and you could install a mini array instead:D

Dave

By the way, the following is for those of you with DirectV:

Called DirectV on Tuesday, talked to a very nice woman in CR who admitted that she was not fully up on the Sat. C thing, after about 7 minutes she transferred me to installation where they took my information and offered me my choices. I took the self install as i already had total Choice package and i'm a do it your selfer. Package came FED EX at 12:00 today ( Thursday ) ( Channel Master 6110) and in less than 10 minutes I had installed it, fired up the Toshiba DST-3000, selected dish setup/oval dish 3 and it acquired guide information and SHO/HD on 543 was there !!!!

All other HD's working also.

Signals as following:

SAt A 92

SAt B 45

SAt C 88

I have an Oak tree that I think is affecting Sat B readings slightly.
