I am about to purchase this receiver used and I just wanted to know if it will have the features necessary to play surround sound from today's media (Blu-ray, .mkv, etc.)

I am not really interested in TrueHD. I just want to make sure that since this is an older receiver their isn't some media format that I am forgetting.

I'll work with Dolby and DTS formats, the newer HD audio formats you'll need a receiver with HDMI such as the 604 5 and 6. I hope you're getting an incredible deal on it otherwise I'd recommend passing on it and saving your pennies, that line has been updated with 6 receivers since the 600 was released.

Coincidentally I purchased a 6.1 channel TX-SR600 back in 2003. It is a good legacy receiver that supports Dolby Digital, Dolby Digital EX, Dolby Pro Logic II, DTS, DTS-ES Extended Surround and DTS Neo:6 sound output.

I'm in the market for a new AVR and am considering the TX-NR905/TX-SR875, AVR-3808CI, STR-DA5300ES and VSX-94TXH.

I could use some help too.
