THE ROCK won't play on SAMSUNG 1400 with newest firmware

4150 Views 38 Replies 26 Participants Last post by  tcfiero
Anybody else having problems with Buena Vista's THE ROCK not playing on Samsung 1400 with latest firmware?

I keep getting the DISC WILL NOT PLAY screen.

I've had no problems with other recent Buena Vista discs CON AIR, RATATOUILLE, CARS et al.

Cleaned it, rebooted, powered down, ejected etc etc.

Any tricks to make it play?

Or just a bad disc?

There are a couple of scenes that lock up my player about 45 mins into it. But it does play once I skip those scenes.
I feel sorry for anyone who bought a 1400. I had enough with the player after a couple of weeks and it's blatantly obvious it's still a lemon, no matter how many firmware updates they've released.
Played fined for me with the exception of a few video/audio drops out about 18 minutes into the movie.
Unfortunately I just bought one bases on a good professional review in home theater mag. I unpacked it and could not play Live Free of Die Hard, even after doing a firmware upgrade. Can someone please point me to a player that plays Blu Ray movies? Is this how all players are? Is it a Blu Ray version issue, or is it just a Samsung thing?

Live Free or Die Hard plays fine with this player. Did you do the update through the player's Ethernet port?

The firmware version that you need to have on your player is 1.2, also called 071113.01_XAA. If you don't have this version either download from Samsung website your self or keep updating from player's ethernet port until it indicates no more update. And yeah, it is a Samsung thing.

Return the 1400 and get a PS3. The PS3 plays EVERYTHING. If you MUST have a standalone, then the Panny BD30 is probably your best bet.

I don't know if this trick will work with the 1400, but when this happens on my 1000, I take another blu ray disc (doesn't matter which one) and let it load. Once that disc loads, eject the disc and then load the problem disc. Works on the few problem discs I have. Why I don't know, but it does.

Give the PS3 or Panny BD30 a shot.

Thanks for the info. I use a universal IR remote, so I dont want to use the PS3 Bluetooth remote. My DVD player runs on Panasonic codes, so I want to avoid having a second panasonic disc player. Do you know if Sony blu ray players have any "no play" issues or other reasons not to buy one?

Are you sure the player is runing firmware 1.2?

By the way I don't have the Panasonic player but users have indicated that there is a way to change the remote code so it doesn't interfere with other Panasonic codes.

You call this playing fine?
Does ANYTHING play on this piece of crap? All I see are threads about how horrible it is.

Yes. The Blu-ray disc played on my 1400. I'm using firmware 1.2 that is why I asked if he is running firmware 1.2 I'm not aware of any discs compatibility issues with this player as far as the player refusing to play the discs is concern.
No problems with my PS3. The Rock is AWESOME Movie!!! Watched it twice already.

and for those of you wondering: no problems with ANY discs on any one of my three HD DVD players!

You maybe thinking of the BD-P1200 or the newly released BD-UP5000. No that I'm saying the 1400 is a good player but at least it has been able to play all the new releases so far (at least for me with FW1.2). The are three remaining big issues with this player which are:

1. Broken 24hz output which doesn't affect me at the moment. It used to work but Samsung broke it in one of the firmware updates.

2. Can't leave a movie paused for more than 5 minutes or the player will shut off. Who knows if they ever going to fix that.

3. With some movies I get two to three short video/audio drop outs usually within the first 15 minutes into the movie.
See less See more
man the samsung 1400 is such a terrible player.

Glad I have the ps3. I could live w/o bitstream for now.
