I have been trying to find some technical information to back up why Amarra sounds so different compared to other 'bit-perfect' audiophile players – at least to my ears. I have read various posts that agree with my opinion. In some cases, I have read that it is likely that Amarra tampers with the audio bitstream, which makes it a non-bitperfect player. Does Amarra apply some sort of DSP before it sends the file to the DAC? This is a very subjective comparison, of course, but Amarra sounds like it has wider dynamics, instrument separation and better imaging, compared to e.g. plugging in a USB drive onto my processor or Audirvana Plus. Those comparisons were not part of a DBT or anything like that. Simply years of listening to those three methods of playing the same music.

I would appreciate any information you may want to share.
