One word of advice: Don't miss this.
It is indeed very cool, and I'm so glad the folks at SIGGRAPH have allowed it to be shown. I saw this as part of the Siggraph 99 and loved it. I had a few problems with omissions (there was nothing about "The Last Starfighter" for instance), but it is a great overview of the field. Read about it here.

Damn, I wish there was some way to record this! Thanks so much for posting this. I'm gonna go head over to the store to watch this.
HDNet is on The Ball

:)
HDnet: Please show this again soon!

The short notice means many of us will

miss it this time around.
Man, this sucks.

They call it "The Story of.." when it's really "The History of.." and unfotunatly I remember all this stuff happening when I grew up.

grrr.
Very initeresting show.

Almost makes me want to go start up my SGI computer that's been gathering dust for several years. :)

Don't blame me...I posted a link to a page with an overview of the program that featured a black & white picture of Gene ***** of MIT showing someone a very old computer. Sorry that it wasn't exactly what you expected, but "story" usually means "something that happened a long time ago". I remember all this stuff as well, have met a number of these folks and was overjoyed to see it again.

Perhaps someone can air the most recent SIGGRAPH Electronic Theater reel. That was almost entirely presented in HD.

BTW, did anyone else see juddering on some black text moving right to left in the first half-hour of the program?
Great show
Well I thought it was great. The only thing that bit was the few minutes my wife made me change it to watch the Weakest Link...

I'm so emberassed.
If HDNet can get their hands on more programs like this it would be great. Very enjoyable.....even if I knew the ending.

Maaaannnn, I always miss this kind of good stuff. Definitely I hope that they show this one again!
Definitely. While sports, concerts and travelogues are fine, it's great to see history. It helps that the Computer Graphics folks have been producing segments in HD for years. One thing I'd love to see is some of the "ride films" that have been made in HD over the years, like "Devil's Mine" on HD-Net. Maybe Pixar would be willing to let HD-Net to show some of the shorts as fillers. I believe "Knick-Nack" was done in HD.

Hopefully, when HD-Net's line to LA is finished, they'll be able to go 24-hours, and put on some odd stuff late at night.
No no no. No blaming anyone anything.

I'm just saying I'm bummed I'm old enough to remember something that's "history" now. :)

Isn't everything "computers" a new thing?

:)
