Yikes! That's pretty crispy!! Hopefully they got a gallon of marmalade and butter to go with it!

ouch!

I cranked the brightness on my monitor, since his pictures were rather dark... It didn't make any difference, the tubes were STILL dark!

Well, it might be what someone is looking for- a working projector to retube.

I bet you that G70 still put out a better picture then some displays. Another thing is it still displays a picture, unlike other PJ's that go black until the bulb is replaced.

Seems like an alright price to part it if you own a g70. Maybe even send those tubes to VDC to have a spare set, not sure if the sony's are as hard to get as my NEC's are though.

But it only has 4125 hours and is fully functional! :) Some one likes the contrast.

In the past I had serviced lots of sets that had bad tube burn. I was always amazed that they still through an OK picture that some people were happy with. They still look remarkably good sometime if there is no text burn.

Here is a screenshot I just took of an NEC XG-1350 I picked up yesterday. I got it so cheap that I thought that I would get some VDC rebuilds for it. I bought this for a project.

The hour meter says 8535 TOTAL ON TIME and about 8200 hours on the CRT's. The Green and Blue tubes are almost as bad as the Sony, but not with such even wear. I looks like a bar chart is burned into them.

I really am a CRT novice, but I have retubed an ECP 4100. I hooked this up and spent about 1 1/2 hours setting it up (first time with an NEC) just to see how bad it really was, and to my surprise this is what I got.

p.s. the seller advertised this a in "perfect condition" with "no wear on the tubes". I wish that I had remembered to take a picture with the lenses off!

Not too bad for 8000 hours and severe burn. It is a very watchable picture.

I bought that G70 because it's only a half hour from me, so no s/h cost. VDC CRTs are $595 ea., so if it needs B and G I'll have 2565 in it, and if all 3 CRTs need replacing, I'll have a total $3160 in a Sony G70 with 4000 hour chassis and new tubes, a setup remote, manual, cord, and ceiling bracket. Anyone interested in it for $4199? ;-)
