Hello all, just bought a 65HM167 from a coworker Who`s Grandfather recently passed away (original owner)and was not able to test it first because the Lamp had blown and still decided to take a chance on it.

Having a real hard time justifying spending $120-130 on a quality Lamp when I have no clue how good the picture will look on this thing.

Know its a long shot being that likely few People are still using these TV`s, and any Lamps that may have been kept was probably changed for a reason, usually being that they have dimmed significantly, but would like to be able to test it out with a cheap used Lamp before spending the money on a better quality Lamp. Do not really want to go cheap knock off or equivalent either, and the original owner was a heavy smoker and I have spent a good 2-3 hours cleaning the smoke off inside and out, but who knows what other issues there might be associated with that, so honestly really questioning why I`m bother with this at all considering I can get newer better TV`S for less than $400 more than a Lamp for this would cost.

It must be a serious curiosity on my part to see what this will look like. Anyways, if anyone can help me out, shoot me a PM with a price.
Listen, bigrushhead, I understand your curiosity, as it is a big screen, but consider; I'm on my second HDTV since the Toshiba. My current one is 4K with HDR and Dolby Vision, and it's a world of difference...a world man. If you really must, go for a cheap lamp, so if you don't like what you see, you didn't spend much and it will blow in a year or less.

Also consider, even with a quality lamp and UPS Backup protection, it'll probably last 2, 3 years at the most.

Whatever you do, keep an eye on the sales in places like Best Buy (not Costco), they bring the models with good reviews, and may do price match. Good reviews from knowledgeable sources is the best research and then...hunt for your screen.

I actually bought this for my Son to do gaming on. I have (2) 4K TV`s and a Sony HW45ES Projector. His Samsung DLP had dimmed to the point of needing a new Lamp as well and he always liked the picture on it, so I figured I will be spending the $ for a new Lamp for that one, or I could maybe get into this bigger TV for around the same cost and he ends up with a bigger picture. That was the original thought process till I found out quality Lamps for these are damn scarce.

I did find someone local selling 2 of them for a good price but he has not returned my Tex messages yet and I have a PM from someone here I have yet to read, but thanks for your input.

Oh, that's different.

In that case, let your son evaluate with the cheap lamp, if he likes it, buy the quality one. Also connect the system to a UPS Backup, it's very important that the Toshiba has clean voltage and it's able to do it's shutdown cycle if power goes out. That should get you 3 to 4 years.

Hey bigrushhead, I have a working used lamp for you. Mine is from a 50HM66. One of the lamp fans died in mine and I ended up buying a new TV. Just go back one page in the forum to see my post from 2012 looking for help! lol I never fixed the TV, I just gutted it and kept the internal parts and they have been sitting on a shelf ever since. I have the main power/control boards/color wheel/lamp/light engine etc. All for sale at very reasonable prices!

I don't have enough of a post history to send you a PM so if you PM me we can talk details.

Just an update on this TV situation. I was able to connect with the person locally selling the 2 Lamps, One brand new and one slightly used, got them both for $50 and they`re both older so thinking they may have been bought before all the knock offs starting appearing, anyways came home, put the slightly used one in and Viola!

Slightly used one is still quite bright and the picture after some adjustments looks pretty darn good. Not bad at all for a 12 year old TV. I just hooked up a surround system for my Son again so he is all set for awhile.

I popped in the Metallica "Through the never" Blu ray and for the little $ I have into all of these components its not a bad set up whatsoever. Also went to YouTube and watched some 4K and it looked even better even though its obviously not native, but it goes to show that this TV for being 12 years old can do quite well if you give it the best picture sources.

Ordered a remote and will able to make final adjustments from the regular viewing position this week...Making adjustments pushing the side buttons was quite tedious and not optimal as you`re right on top of the picture.

Thanks for the replies as always. This Forum has always been a great source for info and news and even purchases.
