eesh...was hoping for a bit of scare while waiting for the next sequels from Paranormal activity or Insidious so I thought this was a done deal from mostly positive reviews but I never got to finish it because I fell asleep about 3x during watching so take that with a grain of salt and I have no interest in trying to see it again. Another flop for me, hope others have a better time with it.

+1 I enjoyed it too, though
Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show) Spoiler
Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show) I felt the ending was kind of a downer. Wish that woman had gotten what she had coming instead of killing the father and son both.

One of the best ghost stories in recent years...along with Insidious. The mood and gothic feel are superb!

+1.

...But damn Radcliffe's "acting" hasn't improved a bit since the first Harry Potter!

Most of the reviews I've read have said he did a fine job. Maybe he just needs to stretch out in different types of roles. It would be interesting to see if he could do comedy.

Yeah and all his castmates + the director in the special features agree on how gifted he is
(I did watch them btw)

...but he still looks like he doesn't know what he's doing on the set, he still moves his lips like an annoying kid in any situation like there's some deep thinking involved - he's very much like he was in Potter, even if the role requires more restraint. And it's just me but I'm still having a hard time seeing him as a father. But the suit does make him look more adult!
....okay there are some moments, but his overall performance, I'd say...average?

With that said I did like the film quite a lot. Mostly for the cinematography and the old-fashioned ghost story, the slow pacing which lets the story develops, the eery tension...

Loved the overall atmosphere in this movie. There were several long lapses with absolutely no dialog where they simply used the atmosphere to tell the story (which I enjoyed). Unfortunately, there were too many cheap scares which ended up getting on my nerves. The story was cool though and I enjoyed the ending.

Ouch, you guys sgouldn't have mentioned Insidious that was a loser for me.

I mentioned Insidious and the two movies are no way related other than good ghost stories, IMO. I loved Insidious...scared the poop out of me but I also loved TWIB though not as scary and very different in tone.
