I saw something about this in the January OXM on page 24, so I investigated and found this on Xbox.com

Calling all Xbox Live® gamers! You're about to experience a whole new level in entertainment. Yes, we're talking about the launch of Xbox 360™, but we're also talking about the brand new—and free—Xbox Live Diamond Card, an unprecedented merger of your entertainment activities, online and off. Never heard of it? Well, here's what you're in for:

Your own card: Did you sign up for a digital gamer card on Xbox.com? Of course you did. Now, how about a real, live, flash-it-to-your-friends card personalized with your gamertag? Ask no more! The Xbox Live Diamond Card is here.

That's not all: The card does much more. Xbox Live has partnered with your favorite stores, restaurants, and other retailers across the country for discounts and promotions exclusively for Xbox Live Diamond Card program members.*

It gets even better: Xbox Live isn't going to sit still, either. We'll continue to bring you new partners and more opportunities to use your Diamond Card.

The best part: The Xbox Live Diamond Card is free! It's our big thank you to all our loyal Xbox Live subscribers.

The Details

Xbox Live 12-month subscribers on the original Xbox® and Xbox Live Gold 12-month subscribers on Xbox 360 who opt in for Xbox communications can sign up now for the program—you'll get your cards shortly after the '05 holiday season.

Xbox Live Diamond Card memberships are good for one year from the date of issue, and you'll get a new card every year as long as you remain an Xbox Live 12-month subscriber (on Xbox or Xbox 360) and opt in for Xbox communications.**

Who's partnering with Xbox Live to bring you special perks card offers? How about Ticketmaster, Cambridge Soundworks, Timberland, Dish Network, and hundreds more? Thought that would get your attention.

Important!

In order to send you your card, Xbox Live needs your current mailing address. Make sure you update your profile with your current information.

Ready to get your card? Get started now.

*Offers valid at participating locations.

**Program terms and conditions subject to change.

a) You receive a personlized "card" (I'm assuming like a credit card) that is personlized with your gamertag.

"Your own card: Did you sign up for a digital gamer card on Xbox.com? Of course you did. Now, how about a real, live, flash-it-to-your-friends card personalized with your gamertag? Ask no more! The Xbox Live Diamond Card is here."

b) You receive discounts at select retailers (not sure if it's by showing the card)

and

"How about Ticketmaster, Cambridge Soundworks, Timberland, Dish Network, and hundreds more?"

c) They'll be adding "partners" that I'm assuming will be other retailers, etc.

Looks pretty straightforward to me...except for how to sign up for the darned thing. :)

From what I can tell, you do a "soft" sign up through your Xbox live settings.

"Xbox Live 12-month subscribers on the original Xbox® and Xbox Live Gold 12-month subscribers on Xbox 360 who opt in for Xbox communications can sign up now for the program—you'll get your cards shortly after the '05 holiday season."

I'm not sure where that option is located in the Live dashboard, if someone finds it (I'm at work, so I can't get to my 360), let us know.

I don't think it's an option available in the Live Dashboard, I think it's in your Profile on the Xbox.com website, under Web Preferences. There's an option for 'recieve insider info from MS' or something along those lines. I don't know if you also have to check 'recieve 3rd party offers'.
that would not make much sense if you have to receive emails in order to get the card. But then again it would because microsoft revolves around money and marketing.
My point was what are these offers? Are they worth giving up a little more privacy? They need to be more specific.

From the offer:

"Xbox Live 12-month subscribers on the original Xbox® and Xbox Live Gold 12-month subscribers on Xbox 360 who opt in for Xbox communications can sign up now for the program..."

What did you expect, birthday cards? :D
but how do you opt in? I know its not going to be free or easy, but I just didnt see that option anywhere.
There.....read that and it will tell you how

I'm guessing they're discounts, probably like a 10% discount off of electronics at Cambridge Soundworks and such.

If nothing comes out now, I'm betting that whoever "signs" up for this will receive an informational package with their Diamond Card early next year.

Was just skimming so I'm not sure if this was answered already, but I read somewhere when I was signing up the other day that you have to print off a coupon/use online code and use/flash/whatever your diamond card for discounts.
