Just hit 1955 hours. I hear the lamp will not strike after the 2000 hour mark. Is there a way to reset the counter? I'd like to use all the hours I can get (or is that not advisable)?

At the rate I'm going I'll hit 2000 before the end of the month. Actually there is a very good chance since, as you may be able to tell by my name, Halloween is one of my favourite times of the year for watching lots of scary movies.

The lamp may well favor without a catastrophic explosion. In fact, such explosions are probably not all that common.

So the bulb won't go beyond 2000 hours without a reset? Sanyo won't quote lamp hours but they put a limit on the hours? So what's the danger? plenty of lamps fail prior to 2000 hours without blowing up....

I'm at about 1100 on my SE2HD (Z2).

Where did you get the idea that the lamp won't work after 2000 hours? I'm on my second bulb now after replacing the first one at 3500 hours. The original lamp was still working when I removed it at 3500 hours but I was beginning to lose brightness but not significantly.

You have a Z2? I havent personally confirmed it but I recall people posting that once you hit the 2000 hour mark the "Lamp Replace" light starts blinking and you are no longer able to light the lamp. If thats not the case then I see no point in the Lamp Replace light at all.

It's a Z2. I bought in January. It hangs inverted from the ceiling projecting on to a 110" screen. It is on about 8-12 hours per day. Turned on and off about 3-4 times per day. I give it no special treatment. I use it just like I used my CRT rear projection set. I have to say after reading some of these threads and the way people baby these projectors, I have to wonder why. Maybe I've just been lucky.

Most projectors have the "replace lamp" come on but it is momentary then goes off, like a reminder. My X1 supposedly will not fire after 4000 hours. I've read a few horror stories about lamps exploding, these are rare, maybe 2-5% of the time. We've got two hitachi's at work here and both times the lamp blew(5 year old proj, had well over 3000 hrs on them), sounded like a 12 gauge going off :) Just replaced the lamps and they were fine, most lamps (at least the ones I've dealt with) are designed to contain an explosion.

If it takes the projector with it well reason to upgrade. My x1 has a two year warranty, if the bulb goes and takes out the projector that WILL be covered under warranty so I would just have to pay for a new bulb. I'm sure most other warranties are similar.

I say run that bad boy until your eyes fall out from the strain. These damn bulbs are too expensive, like hell I'm going to replace mine until it yells UNCLE!!! Sure won't replace it "when recommended"

Lots of people have had their bulb explode (just search the forum) , and they seem to just clean out the broken glass and their projectors are fine. Most of the people who's bulb have exploded did so at lower hours like 100-500 hrs without any damage to the projector. Where did you hear that it will ruin the projector?

Hey Count, try out my savings plan: For every hour that I watch, I toss a quarter into a jar. Luckily my first lamp quit 4 days short of warranty. I now have over $200 saved and am going on about 600 hours on the new lamp. When I get a lot of quarters in the jar, I "buy them back" with bills and put the quarters in another bowl for future watching.

Yeah I was going to do that right off the start.......

Actually, now that I think about it I can probably sneak a lamp into the budget without any problems. I still think I will wait until the current one is unwatchable.

Or you could don your cape and suck some $$ out of visitor's wallets. My roommate always feels so guilty after we watch something on the PJ that he tosses some money into the pot.

Just last night it seemed my bulb was quite a bit dimmer than normal, so i jumped on this forum and found this thread.. boy was I happy when I saw people were getting 2000 to 3000 hours on the projection bulb....

well of course, tonight we were watching a movie, and we both heard a tiny pop from the projector... and the bulb went black!!

the cheapest replacement I could find was $299.. darn

we have only used the bulb on the lower setting.. have had the projector since jan 04.

has anyone else had such a short lived bulb?

Legairre -- our bulb had less than 1000 hours.. all on the low setting.

I actually put the bulb on "A" just before (an hour) it blew. I was trying to get the picture brighter.. it was noticeably dimmer the night before it stopped working. So maybe that switch did it? Whatever it was, the bulb was so dim compared to the week before I would have replaced it anyways probably.. even though I hate to pay so much!
