I just moved into my new home in which i did extensive structured wiring. Most folks on this forum recommended that i run a cat 5 wire to each thermostat location; i did this.

The problem that i am having is finding a programmable thermostat that communicates via a cat 5 connection. Most that i have seen use rs-232.

I plan to use some home automation system in the future (such as HAI).

Can anyone help me on this?

Cat 5 for HAI omnistat should be fine. I think that is what I have for My OMNI II. I'll check when I get home later. I also think that you only need like 3 wires from the thermostat to the omni controller so you could double up on the cat wire.

i ordered the HAI RC-80's today after reading that cat 5 would work with them.
